Ighalo set for Super Eagles comeback, included in squad to face Cape Verde, Liberia

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has said that Al-Shabab striker, Odion Ighalo, is in his provisional squad for their 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Cape Verde and Liberia.

The three-time African champions will play the Blue Sharks and the Lone Stars in their final group qualifying games.

Rohr says he decided to recall Ighalo because of his leadership, although it is still left for the 32-year-old to accept the invitation.

“I put him in the bigger provisional first list for the next games.


“He is doing very well at his club, and he still has the ambition to help his country. Because we miss his leadership, we miss his experience. We miss the goals he scores.

“He was the best scorer at the AFCON, the best scorer during the qualifiers, and I think we have so many young players, and they could learn a lot on the side of such a great player.

“Ighalo is a very important man. I hope that he can come back,” Rohr said in a Q&A on Elegbete TV.

Ighalo retired from international duty after finishing as the top scorer at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Before his retirement, he scored 16 goals in 35 games for the Super Eagles.

you people should allow this coach to do is job he is the one in charge not you, if messi 34, ronaldo 36, cavani37 ,Suarez 34 are all in their national team I see no reason why ighalo who is 32 can't still be drafted into this squad. Besides he is in great form for is club and is a seria scorer for super eagles.
We will be going to the next stages of worldcup qualifiers were we may meet a two legged dread ties with either Algeria, Egypt or Senegal this kind of matches is crucial what if oshimen or ihenacho get injured what next let allow this coach to do is job . he has qualified us for 3 major tournament without the calculators he is an experience coach who has coach some African teams in the past so he know what he is doing. Useless player

The age of Ighalo is not actually the problem, we all know he is scoring goals in one Arab league which is not good enough. We already have 3 top strikers in Osimhen, Awoniyi and Onuachu banging in goals weekly in top leagues in Europe, not to even mention Iheanacho. NFF should stop dragging us back. We as a nation should be thinking of developing always. Even our world cup hero, Musa should be dropped for Dennis who is currently a key player for Watford

Ighalo is not 32 years oooo.....he is in his early 40's.......

Very stagnating and retrogressive mindset, if it was all about recalling Ighalo simply for his "experience", then Rohr and NFF might as well give invites to the likes of Kanu, Okocha, Yobo, Oliseh etc... Ighalo voluntarily retired and he should stick to this decision and principles and stay retired... we have young brilliant strikers like Osimhen, Iheanacho, Awoniyi, Onuachu, Umar Sadiq, Terem Moffi already having fantastic seasons in the top leagues across Europe already and most of them are playing or have played in top class tournaments like the champions league, Europa league etc, so why the heck do we need some guy enjoying his last remaining years of football retirement in Saudi Arabia? when we hope that we see the young ones grow and flourish, we still dey hinge our hopes on a guy who has enjoyed his football to the fullest and should be enjoying his retirement already? Lambalambastica!!! Not bad but unnecessary move, there are so many young strikers who are doing so well right NFF can rely on. Ighalo can only be invited to the squad to give them some tips but not block spot for these upcoming players.
Besides our biggest problem is that we have Ole in disguise as coach and we need tactical change to our match approach
