The Super Eagles need Ighalo. Plain truth. Aside Osi none of our strikers is in Iggy's level as at now!
Of course you are right, none of our strikers is playing retirement soccer in Saudi.

Countries whose players are playing in Saudi, uae,Qatar, Tunisia and Egypt are doing better than our National team.I Used to think that football starts in Europe and ends in Europe until Egypt humbled Africa for three consecutive editions of AFCON with 80 percent home based players

Boss..I am beginning to doubt ur verdicts on some issues

As u watch ball reach..u can't identity a coach DTS riding on sheer individual brilliance of his players wout his tactical input

I like d thesupernerd example of d French coach..dts anoda perfect example of a clueless coach with good players,d only difference is he's good with his selection

To answer ur question

What's rohr football philosophy as a coach?
deschamps isn’t a bad coach, his record outside of the French team speaks for him

Not 2018 WCQ, 2019 AFCONQ you mean?

That said, all this exploits and experience in SE colours was only achieved in about a year. What happened in the years before then?. Ighalo has been very poor in GWG prior to this 2019 AFCONQ and the following AFCON (that you have been using to sing his praise) which I even call a one year or one season wonder. grin grin grin

Why do you say so?
Well, we still miss Alaba because of the void we had in our LB position for over a decade, and even now he would bench our current LBs/CBs easily.

TheLoneCitizen:

I still feel in the history of Nigerian football, even greater than Alaba, Karim Adeyemi will be our biggest miss.

WHY NIGERIAN PLAYERS STRUGGLE IN EUROPE

Terem Moffi interview, why Nigerian layers struggle in euroPE

"The way of conceiving football in Nigeria is very different from what one sees in Europe. There, when you learn the basics, you are already 16 or 17 years old, in Europe, we do that from an early age, at 6 or 7 years old. In Nigeria, we form a group and we play football, it’s that simple (laughs). Do you understand what I mean? That was really it, you come, you play football and around 16 or 17, you barely start to learn the basics. You have to be really talented and good to catch up and assimilate the technical, tactical and physical basics quickly".

This is a quote from Terem Moffi in an interview. I mean with what he says, an 11 year old boy born
in Europe has more knowledge of footballing tactics than a 17 year old boy.
Nigerian or African players go to Europe and struggle because there is a 7 year old gap in their footballing education

I beleive we have to improve on our coaching in order to produce our own messi and de bruynes
There should be a strong emphasis on coaching. In fact, i think we need a coaching revelation from grassroots.
Our football academies must devote more resources to coaching.
One good coach can produce 15 good players and vice versa.
We seem not to take coaching seriously from an early age

Rohr Hit Back At Critics Of Super Eagles Style Of Play, Breaks It Down, Denies Defensive Approach
thedabigal.com.ng

Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says it’s not true that his team approach game with the mindset of defending as said by many.

Speaking in an interview on Elegbete TV monitored by OwnGoalNigeria.com, the German coach said his team play a brand of football that involves moving the ball quickly and turning defence into attack.

Rohr said it’s not true that they don’t play an entertaining brand of football as suggested in some quarters as they try as much as they can to play a type of football that is effective and appealing to the fans.

“I would say we play an attacking style of football; Our strength is to have good strikers, good wingers and we try to play to our strength which is quickly transitioning from defense to the attack, having good solidarity on the pitch, playing quality football and having good touches of the ball.

“Our philosophy is to set up like a block, defending together and attacking together and don’t give any space in the midfield; and then our collective football has always been to have the best results on the field of play,” Rohr he concluded while reacting to a question on his team’s style of play.

What you do at the club level only shows POTENTIAL of what you can do at the national level. Many of these players that are performing in Europe etc did not hit the ground running immediately there, it took the right coach, the right tactical set up, the right teammates to some extent for them to start performing. Enter the national team, you also need a good coach to see the POTENTIAL, and study why the players are excelling at the club level. Compare that to what he has at his disposal and try to fashion out a good formula that will utilise the strengths of the players before their success at club football can translate to national team football. And this can take time.

This explains why in the past we have had players who were never great at club football but were one of the best when they play in the national team. It is the same reason why you have players that are banging in Europe but you start to scratch your head why they cannot show similar prowess in the national team. my friends, Rohr has been our coach for over 5 years now. He has broken the record of the longest serving coach in Super Eagles history if I am not mistaking. I saw the signs long that the coach could not take us forward.

This is not the time for this player vs that player. We cannot afford to miss the next WC. We have to do anything possible. Just because Ighalo now plays in Saudi Arabia does not necessarily mean he has lost form and he is worse than those playing in Germany etc. it is not necessarily a player comparison thing. It is a matter of if we TRUST our coach to make new additions to the team today that will immediately translate to success? I see us moving to the next round of qualification, but I will repeat again the next round will be very tricky. This is not the time for sentiments or playing player preference.

Nothing is guaranteed. But I will rather TRUST a guy who is still competitive and who has been there, done that most recently to make a sudden impact than another performing player who may need a series of games to show his potential in the national team. If we no qualify for world cup, na for here wailings go plenty. After qualification, dump Ighalo, and I don't care. But nothing is guaranteed either way. The Ighalo way is a reasonable gamble based on our prevailing circumstances.

You want to pretend as if you don’t know Gana gueye is world class

They don’t have strikers good as osimhen

But do you have any defenders good as koulibally or even half the player he is grin

You beat them in the striking position

They beat you with wingers beat you with defenders beat you with GK ,to round it up Chelsea mendy is now a world class GK grin
No be your fault, I blame Rohr for this

You have a point. Onuachu and moses simon are good examples of players who do well
in Europe but look horrible in the national team.
Actually, a players perfomance depends on many things.
In the history of Nigerian football we have had players who do not do well
in Europe but do well in the national team.
Ben iroha did not have a good career in Europe but was fantastic for Nigeria
i remember his goal against ivory coast in afcon 94.
clubs bench players for tactical reasons and not just the players ability

Rohr should stop using Ola Aina on the right side of the defense and moved him to the left side to compete with Zaidu Sanusi and Jamilu Collins....watching him in Torino he looked more assured on the left side.

At international level, forwards are the ones who win you Championship. This is a short burst knockout round.

Not a long-term league competition. At this level an attacker will always be more valuable than a defender.

I think sports development went awry with negligent of government.

In the 80s to 90s we have a blue prints of sport development from primary, secondary to tertiary institutions and also we have YSFON managed by Tony Eke with the assistance of NSC.

I remember my secondary school represented Nigeria at some youth games in Finland,Sweden and Canada which I was part with true age...we have MANUWA ADEBANJO cup compete for by secondary schools in Nigeria. What of National Sports festival that produced great talents for us.What can we say about NUGA games,NIPOGA games,NICOEGA games, the military games....but the real talents are into yahoo yahoo and prostitution now known as Olosho by our girls.

There are good plans on Nigeria sports development then with season administrators like Isaac Akioye,SB Williams,Patrick Okpomo,Patrick Eke,Tony Eke,Nathaniel Idowu the father of great British runner Philip Idowu,Anthony Ikhazobo,Emeka Omeruo,Prof Emiola etc....but now politicians disguised as sports administrators are the ones managing our sports today

I always laughing hearing that Amaju Pinnick has done well for Nigeria football especially in the area of sponsorship?balant lies....The best sporting brand was in the 90s and this really paved for US 94 team. This feat was made possible by Segun Odegbami,Chris Eseka,Sani Toro,Dudu Orumen and the likes...check out US 94 jersey.

It was this brand that paved way for Nigeria vs England Wembley showdown and made possible by Segun Odegbami who went to John Fashanu to meet British sports minister and later England FA and it was later bankrolled by cadbury. This is what we called real football administration.

The question I always asked myself why are we having those who doesn't even love the games at helms of affairs now.Honestly to make impact as sports administrators you must love the game....the love of the game pushed Segun Odegbami to take over the management of Chioma Ajunwa, use his personal monies and contacts to prepare her for Olympics cos he believed in her talent and at the end the woman won us our first Olympics gold.

Today bunch of thieves are real power brokers in our sport administration. The grassroots development is gone, the only saving grace is to run to Europe looking for Nigerian foreign born we did not have any impact on their developments and if they declined to play for us we insults them as if they are owing us anything.

The only way out is to go back to the root and find a way out.Imagine a school without playing ground for students. My old secondary school in 80s have good football playing field, track field, standard basketball court, lawn tennis court, cricket pitch, solid squash court,Volleyball court, good hockey pitch but going there now everything have turned to carcass.

It's well for Naija o.

Ndidi my biggest headache, admits Rohr
newtelegraphng.com

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has admitted that the absence of Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi remains his biggest headache. Several strikers like Victor Osimhen, Taiwo Awoniyi and Kelechi Iheanacho are firing in the goals in Europe and could pose a selection headache for the Eagles coach. But Rohr said by far his biggest worry is injury to top stars like Ndidi, who is nursing a recurring hamstring injury. “Ndidi not back, this is a big headache for me,” Rohr admitted in an interview with Elegbete TV. The highly-rated defensive midfielder, 24, missed this month’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Central African Republic. It is also left to be seen whether he will be fit in time for next month’s qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde as he has yet to return to full-game action. He last played for his Premier League club on September 25 in a 2-2 draw with Burnley.
