The Lagos State Government has reacted to a viral video where pupils were seen in a flooded school assembly ground, WonderTV Media reports.

In the video, the pupils of primary school age were seen singing the national anthem, knee-deep in murky floodwaters.

However, in reaction to the video, the Lagos State Ministry of Education on its Facebook page stated that the building has been demolished and being built.

The statement reads:
“The school assembly viral on social media is a low cost private school in Makoko, Lagos State.

The video was taken some months ago by a church that wanted to use the video to raise funds for the school.

The building has been demolished and is being built.

Lagos State authorities are sending officials there on Monday to ascertain level of progress.

Thanks for your concerns.”

I love your prompt response!

That's a good one for Sanwo Olu.

To those helping to build the school, more power to your muscle!

It wasn't Sanwo Olu who responded. It was the commissioner for education.

And the response was prompt because the commissioner is a FEMALE.

Why is our government in all cadre always reacting to the issue and never proacting (proactive) to issues. So without this news u wouldn't have sent officials there on Monday? Can any of u govt officials ever allow ur children study in an environment like this even if it's for a second? NO is certainly the answer.
It's high time u realized that this cloud of rain that is seriously gathering all over Nigeria will certainly rain and that rain will be disastrous, mostly on u people that is not used to a mess like this.

While some state governments, even in their insincerity, detest viral embarrassment, Buhari's Federal government wallows in it.

Femi Adesina, Garba Shehu and Lai Mohammed are daily acquiring fresh skills to twist deficiencies into...

BTW, isn't this excuse by the LASG rather lame? Aren't they supposed to ensure the minimal environmental standards are kept?

cool
There will be other schools like that in Lagos and nothing will be done to fix them except if their videos go viral online.

Corruption will not permit them to do the right thing at the right time

I knew it was not a public school in Lagos.

Whether it is private or public school, is it not the duty of the state to ensure the academic environment is conducive for the pupils? Who approved the school and allow it to operate in the first instance? Who sets the standard? Or are the schools not supposed to be registered with the state? The way Nigerians jumped to defend responsibilities in government is sickening.

And I believe the state has a responsibility to punish the management of the school who subjected the poor kids to such unhygienic and dehumanizingly heinous condition. If possible, the irresponsible parents who send their children to such schools also needs some trashing. Ignorance and high level of irresponsibility at all level is the bane of this soc9of ours.
