The US isn't fighting a war on its own soil.... However murder, rape and torture during their Afghanistan and Iraq campaigns are well documented

What I tell some of these funny folks that defend the rascality of the military is that they should go and read The Posse Comitatus Act ; little wonder when Nigerian soldiers die in battle Nigerians don't bat an eyelid compared to the respect accorded the military in the US and other countries. Fela rightly called them Zombies and till date they keep justifying that statement it's unfortunate.
The entire security agencies in Nigeria needs serious reorientation infact recruits/enlisted soldiers should be mandated to go for a 1 year compulsory course on human rights and allied matters before they even begin basic military course.
The Nigerian Army is one of the most lawless organisation in Nigeria. An organisation were anything goes.

No wander a minister in Mali said they are very indiscipline and only good for manning checkpoint.

I do wander how a military will feel comfortable unleashing hell on armless civilians. And they will always deny like the cowards they are.

All this cruel and barbaric attitude will only give chance for more violence.

So why did you compare the US army to that of Nigeria when you know they are not fighting on their soil?

The US army didn't do up to what the Nigerian army have been doing in Nigeria. Few weeks ago, a community was totally burnt down in izombe, imo state.

If the US army is fighting on America soil, which is not possible, any one of them that commit the sort of attroicity Nigerian army personnel do commit will spend a long period of time in jail... Over here in Nigeria, anything goes.

go watch the movie "the kill team" wink
I've read about some attroicities committed by US soldiers in Afghanistan. There is none that is as ruthless as what the Nigerian army do in Nigeria.

The Nigerian army will go into a community, kill anybody they find there and burn down the whole communities, and nobody will be prosecuted for it.

I've gone through the plot of the movie you are talking about right now, the crimes are not up to what Nigerian army personnel do to Nigerian citizens and I can see some soldiers were eventually held responsible for all what happened.

Not a single soldier have been prosecuted for the Shiite massacre in Kaduna and Abuja.

Omo I watched the unfortunate video of soldiers firing GPMG into what appears to be a civilian settlement and the idiots recorded themselves worst of it all they were chanting slurs in Hausa language thus creating room for perfect propaganda material for separatists to use. The rank and file of the l army are another breed entirely, I pray the authorities don't worsen the situation by coming out to deny it because that video obviously wasn't doctored the culprits should be used to set example if not they'll grant legitimacy to IPOB and if we can't win the hearts of the ordinary man on the streets, it's pointless fighting a war that the enemies have support from the locals.

The army will always find a way to disgrace themselves and the people that try to defend them, I see you're trying to be nice but as usual they'll put you to shame by their actions.

Ignorance is bliss.

You are totally and completely out of your depth and your anylsis is anchored on thin air.

You may find this incredulous but one of the first military vehicles I went into in the British army was these very variants you are talking about.

That was way more than two decades ago.

They are ABSOLUTELY NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE and have been obsolete for decade's by most modern armies.

No strategic understanding of holistic battlefield management.

You people will always find a way to defend nonsense. How many time have you heard that US soldiers commit crimes against their own citizens? We need alot of reorientation in this country.

Thank you.

Do you think a General in the US Army will decide to detain a whole family because they insulted or disrespected his wife.

And that detention will come with torture you could easily be illegally detained in a Nigerian army barracks for months. On the basis of order from above.

A young lady was enslaved for months on end by be the police in their barracks after being abducted by the police.

We are in a lawless country and our law enforcement personnel are LAWLESS TOO. Our leader's believe they are above the law and have no regard for " The Rule of Law.

Look at Sowore since August 2019 the DSS is still investigating while he is literally held in prison of sorts

This sums up the fact that young Nigerians are usually the first to abuse power, they lack professionalism in whatever field they find themselves and they rarely show any sense of responsibility.

If old people nor get thugs them nor go see who to use rig elections na young people dey do thuggery.

Most of the old army officers I have met are usually very patriotic and professional. They will even tell you stories of how they fought in ecomog.

Not too young to run should be scrapped of you are below 45 you have no business in leadership.

The university’s spokesman, Habib Yakoob, confirmed the development, saying the victims are about six in number.

Gunmen on Tuesday morning struck at the staff quarters of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) and abducted a professor of Economics, Obansa Joseph, two of his children, among others.

A source and resident of the quarters, who pleaded anonymity, the gunmen invaded the senior staff quarters at Giri in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at 1 a.m on Tuesday and operated for about an hour.

The names of the professor’s two children who were also abducted could not be confirmed as of the time of filing this report.

PREMIUM TIMES gathered that the other victims included those who were simply recognised by the source as “Barrister John, Fidelis and Mallam Sambo.”

The university’s spokesman, Habib Yakoob, confirmed the development, saying the victims are about six in number.

“Yes, I just confirmed that the information is true. Apart from the professor and his children, a non-academic staffer was also involved. They are about six victims,” Mr Yakoob said.

He, however, added that security operatives have been mobilised to secure their freedom.

“They are on their trail,” the spokesman said on the phone.

The victim, Mr Obansa, is described as a “distinguished economist of repute”.

He is currently a sitting Professor of Economics at the university and a Visiting Professor of Economics at Veritas University, also in Abuja.

Mr Obansa is an alumnus of University of Abuja and University of Lagos, whose research interest includes Health Economics and Quantitative Economic Analysis.

He has published extensively in reputable national and international journals and has served in several management and Administrative capacities within the University of Abuja.

As of the time of filing this report, the FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, had yet to respond to phone enquiries concerning the attack.

Virtually all parts of the country is currently witnessing worsening insecurity and spike in crimes as security operatives battle to halt the surge.

When the American army moved into Afghanistan, acts like this occurred before new rules of engagement were created to adapt to current realities of asymmetric warfare.

We have been doing COIN training for quite a while, not sure if this is implemented in the NA.

All I'm going to say on this topic is comparisons to the US don't matter because the US is operating on foreign soil. If the US operated on US soil I'm sure the same stories from Iraq and Afghanistan would occur here. We already have trigger happy police so why would our soldiers be different?

There has been an increase in the number of NAF night attacks on ISWAP/JAS in recent weeks. And these attacks are mostly targeted at large gatherings of the enemies. I love to see more of this especially in the lake Chad axis.

Are you implying that one military crime is better or more understandable than another depending on location? Personally i don't see why Canadian soldiers raping and mutilating a Somalian girl, as I read somewhere, in addition to killing two other unarmed Somalis is not just as bad as Canadian soldiers raping some Canadian girl at a club somewhere in Canada and gunning down a couple of Canadians in Canada. If we are establishing a hierarchy of military committed crimes, does crime committed by US soldiers in Afghanistan rank higher than ones committed in Iraq for instance?

If, for the sake of trying to understand this thing, Nigeria invited American police to help ensure peaceful elections in some state and they ended up abusing their powers and shot dead several civilians would this be of less concern to the American state or international opinion than equivalent deaths caused by police in America. Wouldn't it actually be seen as worst to commit this abuse of power in a foreign nation than at home?

I have little doubt personally that American soldiers would commit conflict crimes in America should armed conflict arise in America to the extent that it has in Nigeria. I actually believe they would commit worst ones in any objective analysis afterwards. Could the American civil war be used in illustration or is that too old?

In Afghanistan, the military possibly killed quite a good number of non fighters. Reason being that many are armed and such it becomes difficult to distinguish a terrorist from an armed citizen. You could be shot in your bed for having weapons. Also breaching of wrong houses led to people getting killed simply because they picked up an AK to confront whoever came in. My point is this, statistics may not tell the whole story.

As for the video, automatic fire on a residential home is a very stupid act. If you suspect something wrong you breach the house. Lastly, forget about those here comparing the US Military to Nigeria's. They've fallen prey to confirmation bias grin

If you are not providing a $10b project Nigeria funded in a fiscal year or a global standard where Nigeria is classified as wealthy, then STFU.
