You may want to check out this thread on the update of the collapsed building. 15 floors were approved, the owner decided to make it 21. https://www.nairaland.com/6831009/ikoyi-collapsed-building-15-floors |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by n3xt(m): 1:38pm On Nov 02, 2021 |
uncleteeh: That’s why I asked how? Was the contractor funding the project by himself? I mean “Did he add the 6 floors unilaterally with his own money?” On issue of cutting corners, are you implying that the construction company with years of experience delivering similar projects do not understand or have a system in place to checkmate this? Or they’re actually the one dishing the orders to their contractors? “This is what I want and how it must be done!” |

uncleteeh: And 6 floors suddenly appeared from the thin air... all the regulatory bodies that always comb every shanties in Lagos state missed the addition of 6 floors. I know excuses when I see one. 1 Like |

A 21 floor building on Gerrard road should have nothing less than 40 - 50m deep pile. I’ll start from the company that did the pile. Did they actually achieve the recommended depth? Those who know knows. |

EgunMogaji2:Lol, you’re not omo eko, na omo Ibadan nlo ni oooo. Seriously wahala dey our country ooooo. May of our Engineers and owners go through hell to get building approval in Lagos state. Imagine where approval may take 1 years after paying all official fee and EGUJE if is fast, many owners finished building before get approved. Can you believe some of these government officials asking builder approval for color of sand used for a building lol, that how bad it is. 1 Like |

michlins:why are you tired? It’s not a surprise to me @ all, compromise across the chain from approval to blocks makes to mixing of concrete every chain to government are all compromised. land racketeering inclusive compromised. I hope this is not the beginning of the disaster we shall see, most of the buildings build in last 2 years are worst them ever because of high cost many results to cutting conners especially in iron and cement. Imagine selling 9mm rods to public as 12mm, 13mm as 16mm etc. This is the result of corrupt society when people worship money then integrity 2 Likes |

Too many corner cutting. Negligence Using unqualified workers/contractors Underquoting just to win contracts Not following proper building codes Using substandard materials The list is just too many! The worst of them all is the lack of regulation from the government! 1 Like 1 Share |

kopell: Our problem is mostly a people's problem. Individually, we have greedy and heartless citizens in the majority. Up till now, I'm still battling the 2m tax levy they placed on me. This is a fee they can't back up after paying every other fees placed on my neck because I chose to build a shelter! This is an approval I started since Jan! |

Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by kopell: 4:53pm On Nov 02, 2021 |
topsy23:These are the reason why I find it very very difficult to put my hard earned money into a finish constructed buildings in Nigeria, from land documentation issue to integrity of the structures many times are questionable, you won’t believe many of those nice looking estate don’t have proper land title documents until you find yourself in its when you start asking questions on the owners of the company fronting for the estate. 2 Likes |
