Clefayomide:So you agree with me then that tech encompasses every profession and can't be compared to teaching and nursing. Opary. |

So I have a quick question for anyone willing to contribute. On NL, I see a lot of denigration for people here who claim to be web devs but actually are just deploying a CMS, mostly WordPress with custom themes. Why do people here have these kinds of sentiment towards WordPress "web designers"? I ask because as a lowly WordPress Technical Support Engineer(TSE) , you could earn as much as US$70K per annum. That's as a TSE o! |

airsaylongcome: Most of the people who hate wordpress are degenerates. I am sorry but I cant just find a better word. WordPress/Shopify are the best platforms to master as a beginner web developer. A lot of people see WordPress and all that comes to mind is installing pirated themes and calling it a day. Full-stack applications are deployed on WordPress. At my job, I have been opportuned to work and deploy two full stack jamstack applications with React and WordPress for two billion-dollar companies. One in Canada and another a real estate giant in Australia but the market spans Asia and new Zealand. Wordpress is also used at top tech companies like Microsoft and Salesforce. Yes, check their career pages they use wordpress and check out wordpress VIP. |

tensazangetsu20: As innn! National Geographic website is built on WP. Same with the NY Times. That's minus the reported statistic that 40% of websites run on WP. I agree that those nulled themes are the bane of WP installation in Naija. People don't want to pay to buy a theme. Even though they have billed the customer for that theme |

airsaylongcome:Most wordpress work abroad is custom based. Custom themes and plugins. Most white people treat their business website like a product so a lot of money in wordpress development over there. |
Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by airsaylongcome: 3:54pm On Nov 02, 2021 |
tensazangetsu20: Facts bro! You have stated facts. WP is major abroad. I saw a very interesting opening for WP support. And the technical knowledge needed is mid-high HTML and CSS knowledge and experience deploying at least 3 production WP sites. And yet we "laugh" people that describe themselves as website designers who use CMS solutions like WP (is Joomla widely used in Naija sef?) |
Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by tensazangetsu20(m): 3:58pm On Nov 02, 2021 |
airsaylongcome: Even WordPress isn't used well here. Most WordPress sites in Nigeria are pirated themes. I cant blame companies. Nigeria is still in the primate era as far as tech is concerned forget the few noisy startups here and there. |
Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by airsaylongcome: 4:23pm On Nov 02, 2021 |
tensazangetsu20: Factor in the widely held belief amongst local web devs that the "best" website is the one you build from ground up. A lot of these so-called web designers believe they are "good" because they can mock about with HTML, CSS, JS and have "crazy" animations and mobile responsive sites. Zero productivity as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather have people spend more time improving an existing product than have them spend considerable time building one from scratch. Anyway me I'm off to sharpen my WP skills o. Hopefully Automaticc is still looking for TSEs in January 1 Like |

airsaylongcome: Only crazy junior devs believe that. At my workplace, we even have a drag and drop tool we use to make our designs before parsing them over to react. I think qtguru has done an interview with automaticc. They are remote-first and hire from everywhere |

Lol hope y'all are following the chisom trend on Twitter. See how the guy became over friendly cos na woman dey involved and ultimately disgracing himself. That's just exactly how it is in the tech eco system (work force) too. Take it or leave it |
Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by airsaylongcome: 1:58pm On Nov 17, 2021 |
Clefayomide: You have the back story? Only getting to know of it on NL FP. Are you saying such behaviour is widespread in tech? |
Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by Nobody: 6:40pm On Nov 17, 2021 |
Clefayomide:In truth, once you take away the so-called power dynamics, there was no harrsanent there. None that you can prove in a court of law. The girl was vibing to their discussion and at no point was there even a subtle threat or harrsament. |
Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by airsaylongcome: 4:16pm On Nov 19, 2021 |
Kellzzyy: Was she under 18? If she was, then it's an offence. And the power dynamics which you refer to as "so-called" is what makes it a greater offence. You cannot take it out. Put it back quick |

Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by remi1444: 4:51pm On Nov 19, 2021 |
airsaylongcome:She is 22. I mean the particular lady Moe shared her chat with Chisom. On all front Chisom is wrong to even go that deeper with a would be "student". My friend who's currently registered in a gym close to her house is currently having same episode playing out, her instructor text her basically round the clock. They talk about things that aren't supposed to be said because of their fiduciary relationship. It's a matter of time before see finish enter. |
Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by airsaylongcome: 6:04pm On Nov 19, 2021 |
Think4Myself: Abused it how? A more powerful male is making sexual advances to someone younger, over whom he has considerable power in determining if she gets a scholarship and that isn't an offence? If that isn't criminal to you, then we all should not say a word about politicians who abuse their position of power by looting the treasury dry. There was an exchange a few weeks back about how females wanting to get in IT get preferential treatment because they are female. Isn't it because of scenarios like this where influential males in IT are looking to sexually exploit them? How is this different from University professors looking to sleep with their female students because they have the power to pass or fail them? I have my reservations about some feminist positions but this right here is enough ammunition for them to fire all cylinders. And from what I hear, this is widespread in the IT industry in Nigeria |

num1 = float(input("Enter first number: ")) num2 = float(input("Enter second number: ")) num3 = float(input("Enter third number: ")) if (num1 >= num2) and (num1 >= num3): .....largest = num1 elif (num2 >= num1) and (num2 >= num3): ..... largest = num2 else: .....largest = num3 print("The largest number is", largest) Saw this code somewhere on Nairaland and while it's mostly correct, I think it is suboptimal. To spark a conversation, how would you guys go about optimising it? |
Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by Nobody: 1:08pm On Nov 20, 2021 |
airsaylongcome: There's no way for him to know if she's below 18. About the power whatever, it really doesn't exist here. He's not her employer. In this case, he's just any other guy out there offering a chance to link people up to a job offer. She was under no obligation to respect or even reply him. |
Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by Nobody: 1:13pm On Nov 20, 2021 |
airsaylongcome:The guy was under no obligation to offer the girl the scholarship abi na job. There was no legally binding contract or obligation established between the two. So, power dynamics does not exist here. Lets say I have a link to a job offer and I tell you I'll send you the link but you'll have to pay me first. Will you call that power dynamics? That's the same here. |
