Tobex4realTobex234: I don't know, he might need to study and move with people who are legitimately doing better than him How does he spend his weekends and vacation? What skills does he have? Can he get a loan to start animal husbandry or invest in cheap real estate? Can he make use of the social media to buy and sell goods and services? A good number of comperes at Yoruba people parties are teachers, who are making more from their side hustles than their main hustles. As earlier said, I don't have an answer to your question. Necessity is the mother of invention and hardship encourages thinking. We all need to put on our thinking caps and there will be solutions and opportunities 13 Likes 1 Share |

emmanuelewumi: His name is Ric Edelman not Eric Delma. You must be earning a decent income, living within your means or frugally and saving/investing the rest to have a good shot. Most Nigerians are just struggling to survive. Anybody that wants to copy mr Edelman and use Nigerians to chop maga on top financial advice and motivational books is sitting on a very very long thing o 6 Likes |

I don't want to demarket anybody, I sent a mail to SEC about a popular Fintech company in the investment space, SEC denied knowing them altho the company claimed to be recognized and approved by SEC. It is your hard earned money, always do your due diligence 3 Likes 1 Share |

Munamoqel: No need going back and forth over this. You have some peculiar info about the company but the general dynamics of things would soon play out... The answer to your last statement is alot. Dangote has a symbiotic relationship with Nigeria. Let's not forget that alot of companies had to go under so the government could supply him with cheap dollars for his refinery. Let's also not forget that the government practically gave him a grant by buying some stake in the refinery at a prenium. Nigerians are very much in the right to have some expectations in return. His saving grace will be to use his leverage to push for an end in subsidy before his refinery comes alive. Theis he already seems to be doing. 1 Like |

Lazyyouth4u: I align with some of your thoughts about money but I tend to me in-between both. Of course this is a niche thread and ome would expect to find those focused on financial matters... That said, I've come across well to do folks who seem obsessed with making money just for the sole purpose of having an extra zero in their account or the adrenaline rush that comes with that. To them, making money is an art which they must continually fine-tune... Recently had emotional discussions with someone who's very frugal to the point of taking significant risks he could avoid which are affecting his health. At a stage, I had to ask him whats his purpose in life and what's the aim of his accumulated wealth I take a more liberal approach to this... My main aim of investing is to be able to lead a 'relatively' comfortable life... By comfortable I mean some level above the basics such as a number of properties, being able to pursue a hobby (travelling e.t.c), grant my kids good education with something extra to push-start their lives, have some to spare for those around and retire early perhaps to the country side and enjoy life for what it's worth..... 6 Likes |

einsteine: Reason why I asked for the type of license. SEC issues different licenses for capital market operators, they have for lawyers, accountants, issuing houses, Investment banks, exchanges, fund managers, portfolio advisors. capital market agents etc. He can't be a licensed fund manager, what is the name of his fund? 1 Like |

Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by einsteine(m): 9:43am On Nov 02, 2021 |
emmanuelewumi: All I know is he is listed and searchable on the SEC website and he is a member of FMAN. You can verify that. You don't have to run a mutual fund or collective investment scheme to be a licensed fund manager. SEC gives room for alternative funds. On the SEC website, it states Fund/Portfolio manager. I have included the screenshot from SEC's CMO portal

Registration with SEC or whatever is not bulletproof. Shine your eyes and - Invest in assets that have strong fundamentals - Always diversity across sectors, asset type, currencies, geographies e.t.c - Take small risk with less than 5% of your portfolio - Enjoy life, anybody can die tomorrow N:B: It doesn't matter if SEC approves or not, naira will continually get devalued. It's only now worse when instead of just a loss in value, you're now being defrauded of your entire net worth. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Telsidelake:Investing is not hard, I tell you, 90% of all fund managers knows nothing, 10% of them that actually knows something will perform horrible than you. Reason is because they are dealing with or moving a huge lots of money; allocating big money in investing comes with huge risk, the bigger the money the lesser the Return. Hence, most individuals would are just a little good in investing would perform better than the best fund manager in the world, judging by percentage return. This year alone I have made over X6 of my net worth by investing by myself …..this is not bragging, I am just trying to emphasize my point. There are some on this thread who I don’t know in the real word but I can safely bet they have done better than that all by themselves, men or women who probably as no degree in anything related to finance. I doubt warren buffet or ray dalio have made X6 combined in this very year. I am clearly sure I am no where near this gods of investing not just in terms of money but knowledge, experience but they could not have given me that return this year not with those huge funds they are currently sitting on. No one comes with the knowledge about investing from heaven, try and read a book about money at least once in a year, move with people who loves talking about investing and are doing it. You will see how easy, cheap and interesting, investing really is. Honestly, investing always comes with accident; it does not matter if you are the one in charge or someone else but you will feel good knowing you are the one responsible for the accident and it will make you smarter. Not one motherfucker who shows up from nowhere with a tie and suit and with a definite plan to take you to the bottom of hell while promising you paradise. 9 Likes 4 Shares |

Also for newbies here scared of fintechs. Your concerns are valid. But you should not be scared of only fintechs, but anywhere you put your money. That said, let me expatiate on what I mean by your investment journey should be self directed. When you buy shares on Bamboo or Trove or Chaka, you don't fucking need a SEC approval. You can easily confirm that you own those shares by doing a check with the companies you have invested in (I always do this). For all the stocks I've bought through Bamboo, I have verified them with the companies. Even my income fund in SFS through Cowrywise is verifiable. So why the hell do you worry more about SEC approval of apps that only act as an interface more than the actual stocks or funds you have purchased. Even N26 that is an actual digital bank recently closed down in the UK due to Brexit, and customer funds are accessible. N26 is even way riskier, yet people get their funds. Don't let people that are buying the same funds as you oppress you into thinking the funds are not safe because you bought yours through an easier platform. Remember, paper recharge card and USSD recharge na the same thing. No let anybody bobo you. 4 Likes 1 Share

This same thing happened to online degrees. Some old school Professors will say that online degrees are not verifiable until Covid happened and students had to lose over a year of their study time. I am currently doing my Masters online in one of the top 50 schools in the world. It would have been impossible for me to fund this if I have to leave my job and relocate to the physical university. Yet even in 2021, some deadbeats still argue that online learning is scam. What matters is not if you're taking your program via Coursera or edX, these platforms don't need any accreditation, what matters is the actual university you're studying with. We go soon enter 2022, and some people are still stuck in 1950 5 Likes |
