I think the solution lies in lodging formal complaints against erring officers. A lot of people just accept their fate and move on like nothing happened

Agreed. That's a step in the right direction.

But often times those we report to are also complacent. A scapegoat will be punished or appear to be punished and they return to their usual ways.

Delay me on what ground, please? I am not carrying any kobo to bribe any official aside the one approved by the authority. If they try to delay me I will create scene with video evidence.
if you can pass through Abuja better for you, they will beg and not force you, if you decline they will let you pass

Social media punishment works faster than disciplinary measures at times. Make the guy popular in his wrong doings

I have never been harassed at LOS or ABV airports when travelling out. My last trip out of Naija through LOS to LHR, nobody asked me for a penny or why I am travelling.

Even in London Heathrow when transiting, no one ever asked me any dumb questions. Only one person was trying to ask my wife too many questions. I simply told them she is my wife and travelling with me and all questions ceased. I guess favour of God speaks for me every time.

Just recently I watched a video of an American woman who officials at the Lagos airport attempted to extort in the guise that her covid 19 documentation was incomplete.

I have also heard how officials at the airports in Nigeria extort outbound travelers especially those with Virgin passports.

This thread aims to expose the antics of corrupt airport officials and if possible report such incidences to the appropriate quarters.

Over to you guys, let the experience roll in.

Na biafran stand at BA counter with his brother to mess up my UK travel. They by force decided I needed to fill in form that I said I want to do myself then picked an option that has been causing me problems in UK for forced quarantine I have spent extra £300 on tests I did not need.

I told the man off he wanted money I gave him N1k and $3 to get lost after reminding him I refused protocol because I don’t need it. No be today we start to travel.

These are the people that make this country look bad. Another immigration held my passport and said “anything for the boys?” That one I told him he better be afraid it’s like he doesn’t like the job they pay him salary for

As a frequent traveler, i pass through MMA 2 times every year. I stand to defend the Airport officials including immigration. They do not extort anybody. No one is ever forced to give them anything once your documents are in order.

All they do is ask you " anything for the boys?". It's just coded begging.

Even when i sometimes overstay my visitor Visa, they still do not insist i pay anything. I usually get stamped to leave. Any thing i give them is voluntary and they never check how much it is.

If all your papers are in order, you will not need to bribe anybody. Including Customs.

Paid Jobber spotted !!!

wrong information, i dont know were you got this from. just follow the procedure nobody will extort you, read instruction before getting to the airport if covid test is required do it, make sure you dont carry more than luggage required by the airline. giving out money is by choice, i travelled last month and i notice workers at the airport are just beggers i counted up to 5 person asking me ''anything for us?" i did not part any kobo till i board my flight. Nobody is forcing you to give.

Are they not paid.

Bros I agree with you that it has been on for long but we should not accept what is wrong as normal. I met a guy from Nairobi 3 years ago and the only memory he has about Lagos airport is how he was fraudulently obtained by the immigration officer. Very sad indeed. These things make being a Nigerian more difficult.

An Ugandan former colleague couldn't keep the derision from his voice as he narrated how he was being begged for money at the airport on arriving the country on his first ever visit. I was so embarrassed and irritated

Year 2004 being my first time traveling to Europe,I was stopped by one immigration officer and after carrying out some checks on my documents,he demanded I shld settle him 100$ bfr he could stamp my passport, though I had some money on me but I refused to gv him shishi..
So I was cornered, thinking I wld succumb but no way..all I did was to call a family friend that works at the airport and he demanded to speak to the officer....I gave the phone to d officer and all I heard was yes SIR, alright SIR....laugh nearly kill me I swear..
He stamped my passport and said that I will be deported...I didn't mind him, collected my passport and waved him....

I dey laugh in Swahili. Bros they will make you miss your flight and nothing will happen. When you consider the amount you will spend to get you on another flight, you will have no choice but to part with the money. I always advise people to travel from another international airport at another state.

I won’t mind missing my flight, but I will make sure I use the person as a scape goat to serve as deterrence to others. What nonsense! Are they not being paid salary.

Honestly, it is an annoying culture in MMIA, Lagos.

The most embarrassing part is that it only happens in Nigerian airport, of all the airports I’ve been.
I did not experience it in Casablanca airport in Africa.

At every point, they will tell you to drop something

I was also thinking it only happens in Nigeria until I flew through Douala, Cameroon. Same shit that goes on in MMIA happens there as well.

Those immigration officials especially at Lagos airport are good in extorting people ,especially if you have a virgin passport,.the first time I traveled, after stamping my passport the man refuse to return it to me instead he handed it over to one of his boys, who demanded 20k from me,after much argument he reduced it to 10k, since I did not have cash to give Him, I requested for his account number to transfer the money ,He was afraid but after consulting with his boss he later gave me an account number and i transferred the 10k to him before he returned my passport to me
