The senators are ignoramuses. Amaechi hit the nail on the head when he said the project isn't based on sentiments, but sound economic reasoning. Niger republic is an oil- producing country,but landlocked. The main reason for the Kano- Maradi rail line is to make Niger to transport her import and export through Nigeria using our ports, instead of Cotonou. Nigeria will generate huge revenue from port charges which can easily repay the loan under 5 years.
Only a nincompoop will expect Nigeria to build ancient narrow guage trans-border rail line in the 21st century.
The senators are dancing to the gallery. Some of them have been in the senate for too long but don't bother to educate themselves on what is good for the overall benefit of Nigeria.

Benin, Cameroon Ghana all have their own ports, what's the cargo benefits or port charges Nigeria would earn if we build railway to those countries? The $120m that will be used to construct rail tracks inside Niger will pay back within 3 years from port charges alone not to talk of freight charges on all their imports and exports going to NRC.
