From July this year, the once moribund Southern Governors Forum (SGF) seems to have been rejuvenated.

They started with their meeting in Asaba where they collectively placed a ban on Open Grazing and resolved to cause their state Assemblies to promulgate laws to that effect. I must commend those who have lived up that resolve so far.

The Asaba meeting was followed by their Lagos meeting where they issued a communique demanding that all parties in Nigeria should concede their 2023 Presidential Tickets to the South in the spirit of equity and fairness since Buhari would be completing 8 years of presidency for the north in 2023. Such a wonderful call.

In their meeting that followed in Enugu, they threw their weight behind state collection of VAT to further make funds available for states and move towards fiscal federalism. Commendable!

What these many meetings of theirs have shown is that the South is finally coming together to address issues that affect them with common front.

But recently, Rotimi Akeredolu, the leader of the Southern Governors Forum, has been engaging in such rhetorics that suggest that the clamour for Southern Unity so far is to unite the Southern Governors behind Tinubu’s presidential ambition which but betrays the sincerity of the drive to unite the south.

If the Southern Governors Forum had a sense of equity and fairness when they demanded that the presidency be zoned to South in 2023, why did they not extend such sense into admitting that since 1999, a Yoruba man has been President and Vice President for 8 apiece and a Southsouth man has been president for 6 years which leaves the Southeast as the only region in the south that hasn’t tested power and therefore should be considered, unopposed, for the presidency?

Why does it seem that the purported drive for unity is to help increase the chances of a Southwest man succeeding Buhari?

I suppose it is the reason that governors elected on the platform of the PDP are no longer enthusiastic about the Southern Governors Forum anymore or maybe just not interested in its demand for presidency to come to the South.

Hence my question, is southern unity for Yoruba gain? Or what is in it for the Southeast and Southsouth man?

Yes, Because to them, only Tinubu or Osinbajo is qualified for the presidency position, not even Amaechi or any other person from the South. Can you Imagine they said no Igboman is qualified. A region of over 40million people including seasoned Technocrats. Op doesn't this justify your assertion?

GEJ and PDP never set out to sideline the Yorubas during his reign but they are too dubious to admit it.

PDP zoned the Speakership of the House of Representatives to the Southwest after the 2011 general elections.

It was Tinubu who ensured that the ACN House of Rep members teamed up with dissidents elements from the north to deny the Southwest that position only to turn around and use media to launch campaign of calumny against GEJ that he has sidelined the Yoruba in his government.

Can you imagine such people.

The only unity I know in this British geographical space called Nigeria is IGBO UNITY whether in the SE, SS or NC.

We were Igbo before the white came.
We were Igbo and they left.
We will remain Igbo until Jesus comes.

Southern unity is for Yoruba, Urhobo, Ikwerre-Bini, Itshekiri, Ogoni, Ijaw, Bini who are just united by one thing: Common hatred for Ndị Igbo.

Politics 101 just like PDP stole the Senate presidency thru Saraki and deputy of the 8th assembly and you all applauded them.
Don't be forming any useless saint or activist. Go and meet PDP for your presidency

Was the senate presidency zoned to Southwest in 2015 and the Igbos worked against it?

Or was it zoned to southeast and the Igbos rather worked to install Saraki?

None of these was the scenario in 2015.

But in 2011, the Speakership was zoned to Southwest and the region had many House of Rep members of the PDP. In fact Mulikat Akande was positioned for the job.

But it was you Yorubas that helped a northerner take that position instead against your own region. While you turned around to scream marginalization.

How is such a daft move politics 101?

So only igbo is eligible because the way I see it, we've had sw/SS president, so we should just dash igbo the ticket, isn't that what u are trying to say?

Ss

We didn't stay up to 8 years
Only 4 years

If you keep insisting that means we should allow northeners to take it

We from here will decide to just give it to igbos as to calm unity of the country and they haven't gotten any at all
