Well for me, it’s just few minute ago. I was shit scared when they told me to go help them carry him so we can take him in a car to hospital.

I had to wait for my dad before I entered the house. Midway to the car, he lost his life. I was fucking scared..... I’m back alone at home while my mom and dad are still at the neighbor house.....

If you have ever lost someone, it won't be scary to you anymore. When you enter a mortuary especially the one in a government hospital, you will know how far.

That was my late sister, back in 2013......She was lying down in her room lifelessly....And no one was around...The worst part was that where she was living was a very remote area where there weren't neighbours........ The minute I arrived, all of a sudden,na once rain begin fall cheesy. You can imagine that kind of scary scenario cheesy. But I wasn't really scared tho, because she was my closest sister, whom I had always confided in angry. If I no fit see her run when she was sick and alive, why then should I be be scared and run away from her corpse...........

So I used her cloth to cover her corpse, and waited till the rain stopped......Then I ran back home to inform my dad and other siblings sad

I no dey forget that day..

My mum cry . I was the one with her when she breathed her last in the midnight and I had to stay with her because it was too late for any other family to journey down to us.

And I wasn't scared which was quite surprising for someone like me that grew up scared of shadows and imaginary ghosts up till my adulthood.

When i was younger i wouldn't go in to sleep and would rather doze sitting up till everyone was done gisting on the verandah late in the night and when I was older I wouldn't sleep with the lights off.

What always amazed me about that night was that she was still warm when I suddenly woke up from a sudden waft of cold but she had already passed on. But by day she was already cold, stiff and heavy.

I even had to quickly cut and sew the white clothes she was buried in myself, help wash her and clothe her for the jannazah. I kept wondering if that was the same person i knew all my life lieing so cold and immobile. Till today I can't stand the smell of lux soap because she was bathed with it and a sick sweetly smell permeated the air during and after. I wasn't even if the smell was from the lux, from the dead body or just a mixture of the two.

I have never touched a dead person although I have stood in close proximity to the dead body of my maternal grandmother when she died in the hospital in 1996

My friends dad, I have to behave like I am used to seeing dead people, all because I wan my friend to be brave enough so that we can gather enough morale to run the mortuary stuff.

But to be sincere bro e no easy for me o. Fear catch me but at the same time I have to pretend like all is well.

In 2012

I had just lost my mum. They said we should come and say our last good byes.

I just couldn't do it

Help carried my dad's casket with him inside when the boys carrying it almost fell down.

So never actually touched a dead body before.

But why this topic though?

Never, was too young when my dad died, I haven't lost any family member since then.

I lost a neighbor early this year where I live, but I wasn't home when he died, I only stood by the dead body when I returned back from work, it was covid era so I observed covid protocols, I thereafter went for covid test because of the text message we saw in his phone indicating that the covid test he did was positive, I became apprehensive and paranoid. Thank God my test came out negative, I was the only one that did the test then, all my neighbors refused to even acknowledge the message, it was a fake message according to them, it was then I realized how stupid some people are, even the so-called educated.

A message from hospital like UCH ibadan should not be taken lightly.

Eventually the deceased family members came to remove the corpse, I had to warn them to be careful with the dead body and observe covid protocols which infuriated my neighbors.

October 7th: Was driving with my colleague for a community outreach in a rural community in Ebonyi. As we were winding down a the road we suddenly realised that there were no oncoming vehicles, everywhere was dead silent except for the sound of our vehicle.

Sending danger, we started decelerating lo and behold before us was an empty vehicle and on the ground were three freshly murdered bodies. Victims of assassination that had their vehicle set ablaze.

The police already approached, told us to help them load the bodies still gushing out fresh blood onto the back of their Hilux van. I threw up, I was numb. A thousand and one thoughts came to my mind.

Yesterday, I plied that road for the first time since then, when I got to that particular spot, my mood changed and all through the day I was quiet and sober as all the event of 7th October played back in my mind

When my grandmum died in 2017, my mum called me and was actually crying like a baby, I had to drop all I was doing went to the mortuary that same evening and requested for her to be brought out which they did, to be honest I was dumbfounded whether to cry or talk I was just touching her face. It was a devastating evening upon she was in her 80’s..

I will was 7. We have this NAME SAKE culture. The person I was named after died at the age of 114 years. I was brought to see his corpse at his wake keep. As a titled man, he was laid in his sitting room, all the walls were decorated with George material. A high makeshift bed where he was laid was decorated with white materials. A man who I can't remember his identity now raised me up and I touched his dead body and bid him farewell. This is almost 30 years ago
