WHY I NEVER JOINED THE ARMY.

I had the opportunity on several occasions to join the Nigerian Army. I was told I have everything it takes to make it even to the top of the ranks and file of the military in Nigeria. All that was needed of me was just to say yes and people will shake the ground to make it happen.

Why did I turned down a career that someone else is praying and wishing to grab? Why did I choose the part of family life and true justice to brute Force and turbulence? Well. I don't think it's possible for a soldier to have a settled life for a start. Transfers and calls to duty separates a soldier from family ALWAYS!

Actually the main reason why I chose not to be a soldier is because I refuse to be involved in the global blood sucking business of fighting wars. Wars are the after effects of greed, ambitions, hate and economic dominance! People start wars only for selfish reasons.

It all started when one man covets the property of another and wish he could have it by hook or crook. It only took a while before it went from man to man into family to family, community to community, tribe versus tribe, then the biggest of them all; Nation rising against Nation.

There has never been a winner in wars. Only survivors. Only people who are alive to tell the gory stories of all that went down during the blood sucking time of war. War has never settled anything ever. It has only help change the course of history from time to time.

Worst of it is that even religious books were written to paint God even as a God of war. (Something I have always objected).

I know some may argue we need soldiers to defend against external forces. My question therefore is. Why are these external forces at war with us? It's simple. Greed! Covetousness! Hate! Economical gains and rewards! And many evil reasons.

Why do we have to fight if we can all co-exist as co-inhabitants of the place called Earth? Shouldn't we all only be separated by our cultures and traditions, but United by the common trait that connects us: Humanity!

I choose not to make myself available for a government to use me to kill my brother from another mother and country! Imagine drawing guns and arrows against someone I have nothing against just because our country is at war!

Imagine destroying the homes and source of livelihood of my people from another race just because I want to acquire their wealth? Imagine invading a country and killing innocent people (including women and children) just because their government and mine have some sort of diplomatic quarrels that could not be settled amicably?

I will never allow myself to be used as an agent of destruction. Soldiers are trained to kill and not to protect.

Every evil government of the world needs soldiers to protect themselves and oppress weaker nations if the need arises.

If only we choose love and harmony. If only we choose co-existing peacefully.

But because I can't be a soldier in this now dangerous world doesn't mean I will allow anyone hurt me or my family.

Don't even dare. We are the real street generals. We defend our family with all we got but will never enter into a war we are not part of or knows nothing about. We don't allow ourselves to be used for selfish gains.

I wish I have the power,I would destroy every weapons,guns,bombs, missiles and every other form of weapons.....why did man create that which can take a life that he (man) cannot create.......sometimes,I wonder why humans just can't realise how much this planet has given us, gorgeous environment, beautiful foods, wonderful air to breathe, people to call family, friends and loved ones, wonderful oceans...why can't we just set outside our useless ego, greediness and unsearchable wants and enjoy all the beautiful things this planet has given us together.

Naive post. There was a time in this world when there were no armies. We know from history that it wasn't rosy back then.
As long as there are humans on this planet someone will always attempt to take what does not belong to him, be it your land, your freedom, your religion or culture.
Soldiers are necessary and indeed very important.

As long as we speak different languages, or different tribe, gender, religion, poor, rich, there will always be conflicts. Humans for all her tech advancement have shown very little progress on how to manage her differences. It is inevitable that people will be drawn into it. The Nigerian civil war and other wars made soldiers of 10year old kids. Let's just be grateful for the fragile world peace.

What stopped me from SSC was my mom. It was a done deal because the person that sponsored me was the wife of a PM. I was foolish then. Maybe I'd be dead, Imagine.

In a world with so much injustice some outright, some perceived? Or those born into royal families..while some are born into abject poverty. That Utopian One love Bob Marley sang about has never and will never exist. There are a billion+1 thing we will always fight over.No be say anybody go live forever sef.

Is better to join Bandit or terrorists than to join the Nigeria army, at least the terrorist will give enough firepower to kill the enemy

You can also choose not to eat FOOD because plants and animals are living things and since they are not attacking you for survival then why are you attacking them?

Also when you fall sick, no need to use drugs because the bacteria, protozoans and other micro organisms in your system are also just trying to survive by using your body. Why then do u use drugs to attack them?
Do you not see greed, dominance, survival, hate here too?.

See this LIFE is a constant WAR FARE. Life is about survival of the fittest.

Ivolt...in sorry but who told you that? Do you even know that civilian militia are better at defending their home tuff than all these hired men/soldiers....!!! Take the soldiers out and you would see all man raising militia to defend their territory....infact soldiers are the main reason why we are where we are today...? Take for example in Borno when boko started and no state control and the people were allowed to defend themselves...it won't have degenerate to the level we have today where some are now using it as cash cow cos they are never indigenes of the area....!!

Trust me...no man would ever want to watch his house burnt, son slaughtered and wife raped....the war would have ended long time ago if it was left for the borno indigenes to handle the war they know how to with zero interference.....!!!

In the military, you are told to sacrifice your life to protect your state and its citizens but idealistically, the state is the property of the ruling class.

The problem is the ideology behind our economic system. Competition is the fuel of capitalism. This is the major problem on this planet.

What we need is cooperation, not competition.

I share your sentiments. We don't need army. Having standing army is a waste of resources. Untrained bokoharam members are decimating our military. Untrained talibans defeated Afghanistan military. Vietnam peasants defended themselves against US invasion. Peasants fought America war of independent against Britain.
I believe in self-defense but not in blood- sucking organized militaries.

Your argument about not joining because you dont want to engage in wars that didnt concern you , did it ever occur to you there could be transgressors from abroad? Will you just cowardly allow a foreign army overrun your country because its citizens are all righteous and dont want to fight a morally wrong war?....
