If flying the same destination costs 15k, I think 7k for the equivalent trip by rail shouldn't be too much. 1 Like |

Golan007: For a start, that amount is still reasonable. That would attract more people to travel by train which they can then be increasing the price gradually. 5k still fair enough 2 Likes 1 Share |

This man just want to talk ......of course when we were shouting that rail is a luxury u don't borrow money to build just like rifinaries because they are never profitable It would take 101 years ( based on revenue ooh without paying workers n maintaining the train ) for Abuja kaduna rail to break even Lagos ibadan is around 160 years or so Kano Niger us around 201 years If we had borrowed money and called top 10 glass importers ,how much do u need to start producing in Nigeria here ...each factory can easily employ 1000 people that's 10,000jobs direct paying tax If we do same with alluimunum , can vagetable and products we can actually produce here it would have had more impart a People say yen yen yen but u need rail to transport this goods and I'm like the people that import them do they carry it on their head ? 5 Likes |

If USD12Billion was borrowed to build railway in the south, Nigeria will be able to make profit and pay back the loan. 1 Like |

That writer is IGNORANT about the real value of rail for a country like Nigeria, and he sees it in terms of a business investment where we should be bothered about its cash 'ROI'. His mind has swiftly gone to ''Germany'' without thinking through the differences in the two economies - one saturated by rail infrastructure, the other largely bereft of it. Truth is that for a developing country like Nigeria, rail should be and is, right now, a socio-economic investment with a very long-term turnaround in terms of its benefits to the economy. Its primary purpose is to drastically reduce the cost of doing business by making transportation cheap, efficient, and affordable, which is the springboard for the economic takeoff of any region. In those calculations, the immediate return on investment on the actual rail system is completely irrelevant. Low fares means the business environment and employment will ultimately improve, as businesses find themselves cheaper to run, meaning higher profits and more capital for expansion etc etc. The United States became the economic superpower it is by investing massively in its railroads at the turn of the last century. They built lines that criss-crossed the entire country. The rides were cheap, and the rail system massively brought down the cost of transporting people and goods across the nation, leading to great economic prosperity. That is precisely what Nigeria is doing with its national rail masterplan, and that writer needs to take the time to study and learn the objectives of the masterplan before shouting. 1 Like |

When it's TRIBALISM and ILLITERACY that guides their investment decisions. When Business Class is N3,000 perhaps Economy Ticket will now be N1,000. That's how stupid they can get. And you have to convert the money generated into dollars to repay the LOANS. The NEXT LEVEL is constructing a Modern Railway into NIGER REPUBLIC. That one the tickets should be free for economy class and N50 for Business Class. They are our COUSINS, which the British didn't take into consideration while dividing the BORDER. |

The RAILWAYS will break even in 600 YEARS. From the proceeds on Ticket fares. |

Some people believe that the government borrowed money to build train tracks just to pay back and make profits. The most important essence of mass transportation is to service the economy, getting people and products to their business destinations in good time will be more beneficial to the economy than high ticket fees. |
