Hi I got an AD but my admission is on 2022 can I still attend the interview 10 months before school starts? I applied because I had 2021 admissions but it was postponed to 2022 before the AD arrived, I tried calling the school but they refused for me to start this year? Should I go or reapply?

Mmm... This is a dicey one. If you already funded your block account or have a Sponsorship letter then I will advise you to go. You have nothing to lose. Its not likely that you'll get a 12 months visa to cover your new start date but maybe they can make some sort of arrangement whereby you don't have to wait hopelessly next year for an AD(if you're still interested in studying in Germany).

If you have not blocked your account, then the best thing is probably to call the embassy and explain your situation.

For both options, let them know that the school postponed your start date due to visa delays.

All the best.

Good evening,

I am interested in applying for a program to start winter 2022 and the application window opens next year march . I have been seeing category A and B on reading the last few pages of this thread and I do not understand what it means.

I went to the german mission in nigeria's website and it says this {( holding a bachelor's degree with a grade of 1. Class ONLY issued AFTER January 1st, 2019 (for registrations until March 31st 2021 = issued AFTER January 1st 2018) and being accepted for a master's degree (also a DSH course-related admission to the master's program)}.

Please can someone explain this to me as it seems one must wait for up to year to get an interview date at the embassy or who exactly is category A for?

I look forward to a response.

Thank you very much

If you are a PhD student, you belong to cat A

If you graduated with a first class in your Bachelor’s degree within the last two years, you belong to CAT A

If you have a German or EU govt funded scholarship, then you belong to cat A.

Else you belong to cat B.

Thank you very much, I appreciate it !so does this mean that one should book an appointment for visa even before applying to a school? and worst case scenario how long does one wait to be booked for an appointment in class B?

I also saw some people mentioning getting the visa in another african country, how feasible is this?

Alas I don't know much about going through other African countries. But from comments on this thread, it appears to be a cumbersome process. And will typically take about a year (if you succeed). Feel free to search previous comments on the topic and maybe contact the authors.

On your first question, yes, in order for a cat B applicant to stand a chance, they typically have to apply before obtaining admission. This is based on the current policy. I don't know if the German embassy will change policy again.

Thank you once again, so i guess it is to apply for a visa appointment now and hopefully get an appointment date before the winter session starts next year then.

Thank you for answering once again

If you have admission letter with the resumption dates correctly stated, better go for the interview. It's likely your AM will take time but it's way better than waiting for another AD

No I haven’t funded my account yet, I called the embassy the man said I should go to the embassy that he doesn’t know. But I read that the closest time to apply for study visa is 6 months before school starts, but I was wondering if someone else has gone through this if maybe because of covid they have scraped the 6 month stuff.

I was at the embassy in late October and there was at least one Bsc applicant for visa interview.

Msc applicants are far more than BSc applicants. Maybe that's why ADs for Bsc seem to be scarce on this thread.
