Akwa Ibom is a wealthy Nigerian state which is the top state of the country’s top oil and gas producer.

The state has a population of 5,000,000 people and relies heavily on tourism to generate revenue. Aside from oil and tourism, the economic development of Akwa Ibom is based on fishing and farming.

6. Kano state – IGR: ₦40 billion
Kano is not only one of Nigeria’s wealthiest northern states, but also one of the country’s wealthiest. With a population of around 13 million people, Kano State is one of Nigeria’s most populous. Large markets where traders from far and near converge to transact large volumes of business are among the region’s economic activities.


They also grow soybeans, cotton, groundnuts, hide and skin, spices, and sesame in commercial quantities. Agriculture and commerce are two of the most important economic activities.

How can anyone use IGR as a good indice of which state is rich and which is not, when it's all dependent on a given state gov'ts willingness or capacity to collect said IGR! Using IGR as a indicator of which state is 'richer' than the other is flawed as we can see with the states of kaduna and Ogun, whose IGR increased with either a change in gov't or change in gov'ts approach to IGR collection! Tomorrow now, if a Governor Soludo increases Anambras' IGR from 28 billion to say 50 billion, Anambra would be majigally catapulted from 'poor' to 'rich' state in the blinking of an eye abi?

Forget all this bullshit.the richest states in Nigeria are the following ,using the basic criteria.
1.Stand at one major road in the state capital.check the number of luxury cars that passes vs Keke or bus or minibus.luxury SUV .
2.consider number of luxury hotels and relaxing centres.
Na person we chop belleful dey eat roasted fish for joint.
3.look at infrastructure .not only roads but buildings by individuals.
4.consider night life.when there is much money around.daytime is not enough so many activities continue at home
5.let me stop so far.there are other factors
