Among all those engeering courses civil and petroleum engineer tend to be the lucrative ones among them but others takes the grace of Allah to survive in Nigeria

My dear, petroleum engineering is the worst of the engineering courses. It streamlines you to the oil and gas industry.

Unfortunately, even in the O&G industry, chemical engineering take precedence. There are more electrical, mechanical, chemical engineers than petroleum in the O&G. That said, electrical engineering is the best of them all. They are needed in every industry you might think of.

That said, I'll advise anyone to take IT seriously. It pays like money ritual.

OP: Follow your EEE route and thank me later. That course and computer science are selling like mad outside this country. Any idiot can be a marketer and get certifications

You have a point, thank you for your input.

Op, it sad and unfortunate you want to ditch engineering to marketing. Who told you there is no job for electrical and electronic engineers in the country. Do this program : PLC with expertise in any two of Allen Bradley, ABB, Honeywell or Siemens and you will come and thank me latest six months after knowing all about it in solving problems and providing solutions. I rest my case... You could earn as more as 500k to million for a start as an expert

Can I send you a message to get clarification

May be you right and may be not but one thing am very sure is that civil engineering pay very well above the rest here in Nigeria.

I work as a senior brand designer in one of the multinationals in the country. My being there sparked my interest in building a career in marketing.

I am from an Electrical Electronics Engineering background. While in school i loved both engineering and graphics design. I have also wanted the opportunity of working for brands to change or improve consumer perception of a product from ideation to final production.

Here's the thing, I want to start a career in marketing if I'm to remain in Nigeria next year, I'd have to take the necessary certifications needed and jobs that will get me to the peak of the career. On the other hand, I want to continue my career in Engineering. This would mean I travel out of the country for masters and stay there for the next 10 years building that dream.

Reason is the discipline of Engineering I chose, getting jobs is not easy in Nigeria, especially when you want to grow in the core of electrical /electronics engineering and make good money. Please not companies like Ikedc.

Now I'm confused on which to go for. I completed my youth service last year. I'm just starting life fully and don't want to waste time and opportunities.

What path would you advise me to take and why?

I'd really appreciate your thoughts.

Anyone you like.
Please I have a headache.

I beg to disagree, if people know how versatile chemical engineering is, they won't come and talk down on the course.
With Chemical Engineering, you have so many opportunities, unless you don't know the course. Someone even said his brother studied chemical engineering and later went to civil because of lack of job, pls your brother is the problem not the course he studied

Calm down, majority of my faculty that studied chemical are selling in restaurants. If it is not EEE, Civil or mechanical with option around EEE, forget it.

You can enter into the marketing field with no degree but you cannot get into the engineering field without a related degree.

So just get the engr degree but develop skill sets programming, IT or project management, Do as much free online courses as you can I beg you.

In Nigeria only skill set will differentiate you and it might not even be enough but God is your strength

Thank you

Engineering. Take some HSE certifications and apply for jobs outside the country especially in the middle east and you will thank me later.

Can you explain further or I can send a message.

I'd love to know more about this.

I have not mentioned civil engineering in my comment. Civil engineering is also a good engineering course.

Bro, if you know what is good for you physically and mentally, just avoid engineering. Just avoid it, please.
