First of all, we don't Play a back 7 or 8 seeing as our wingbacks are more of auxiliary wing-forwards or wingers. By saying back 7,you imply a negative connotation of defensive system whereas our wingbacks are flying forwards.

Secondly, I just answered you. The whole team is playing well but rudiger and jorginho are our best players SO FAR by virtue of consistency.
We are where we are because the whole team have been doing their bits when called upon eg. Pulisic, ziyech and chalobah today having good games despite limited times.

Earlier this season Lukaku and Alonso with kovacic were one of our best performers. None of them are in the team now. Now James, chillwell and Silva are the standouts. But through all these, the ever present spine of the team has been jorginho and rudiger. Hence both of them being our best performers overall by delivering consistent top notch performances.

Alonsos best game was against spurs. After that, he went downhill.

I agree with you. This is what we call "eye test". Looking at stats we'll see that there have been a few dispossessions and lost ariel duels but overall he has been superb. Likewise, jorgs, he has rarely put in a foot wrong.
