Personally, I feel the guy should be the one to pay on the first date but there's no problem if the girl wants to split the bill or pay part of it. ( That act alone can earn a woman lots of respect).

However, The problem isn't about who pays but another thing entirely ( and this applies exclusively to Naina girls).
Naija girls tend to see relationships as a poverty alleviation scheme.
Ask a naija girl out on a date and she'll want to order food that will feed her whole family.
They forget that first dates doesn't necessarily have to be in fancy or posh place, it also doesn't necessarily have to be a restaurant.
First date is just an means to know if there's a connection, chemistry, compatibility etc between the two people.
These means that whoever pays isn't much of an issue.

Most Naija girls will never volunteer to pay on a first date because they are too busy ordering excessively and also because they feel that paying is solely the man's responsibility.

its certainly AINT WRONG for a woman to pay half of the bill on the 1st date, especially if she ordered for 5 people but only ate half a plate... as for your above story: if a man invites a woman on a weekend gateaway, he should be ready to foot ALL the bills, since he is the one taking her away from her normal environment (way different than dinner on 1st date though)

Every time I offer to take someone out ((whether male or female)), I always have it at the back of my mind that I'm the one footing the bills...

Na me propose the outing, so I believe I should be the one to pay for it, if I feel you're ordering too much, I will playfully tell you that, I can't afford it ...

And for y'all saying not-so-good-things about Niaja babes, well I dunno if it's true, buh I won't forget in a hurry, one of my friends from my uni days who would always take me out a couple of days after I took her out and she'll pay for the entire outing ((TP though is usually on me))...

And please ladies, know that there is no law that says you shouldn't pay for dates ... If I initiate an outing with a vaginarian, taking care of the bill alone will not be a problem to me. If she initiates it and I honor it, the bill is on her and I won't contribute shishi.
