For one, Messi is not a striker.

How can you ever say that Poland qualifying for Euros is bigger than Argentina winning WC. Euros that 24 teams out of less than 40 will qualify, coupled with the fact that there are only 7 national powerhouses in Europe meaning average teams like Poland have a good chance to cinch the remaining 17 slots since they'd be competing with the likes of Andorra and other CR7 favourite national meals.

Inter Milan eliminate Barcelona, and play Bayern Munich at the final to lift the Champion League.
Funny enough, Wesley Sneider was not even among the top 3.

Sanchez rightfully didnt make top 3 in 2016 despite Copa win cos others were better.

He scored only 2 goals and few assists in the Copa tournament despite his MVP award. In 2021 Copa Messi had 4 goals and 5 assists. So the individual level of both contributions is way different. Even in 2016, it was because Messi rejected the MVP award after the final loss which was why it was given to Sanchez cos Messi had way more goals and assist than him in that tournament (5 goals and 3 assists).

Sanchez didnt make any mark in the 15/16 UCL to boost his chances. In the EPL, he also was not top 3 that year.
