Dhury: If Biafra comes, and they want to sell fuel at subsidized rate, they will end up like Nigeria...broke, and using their very scarce forex to feed the subsidy monster. The problem with subsidy is that the cost of producing fuel is always rising , as is the cost of transporting it., plus marketer's profit, plus taxes...so the price would go up, and thus the subsidy. Let's not even talk about the mass smuggling that would happen..to other countries. Then who is going to invest in Biafran refineries, when subsidy means you go sell at a loss? (No one). If Biafra wants to subsidise oil...they should do as the US does and fund it via income tax...not from the crude oil revenue...because the crude oil revenue is very very unstable. 1 Like 1 Share |
