1. When you buy brandnew generator, change the oil after the first month or after 20 hours. Whichever comes first.



2. Then change after 6 months or 100 hours whichever comes first.

Since you said it's 12 hours. That means you should change your oil after 8-9 days.




Note: Make sure you check the level of your oil before starting to avoid the engine damage.

Most new generators now come equipped with an oil switch. This prevents engine "knocking" like you rightly imply. It shuts down your generator once you are low on oil. Start it 10 times it shuts down 10 times. This dosent mean that OP should wait for that warning sign though.

I bought this gen some years back.... Around jibowu area.. My brother i used this gen for years, i swear i didn't change oil, lol..

Not advising the above... Yes for years i didn't change oil, the day i changed oil, gen started giving small small issues, perhaps na local oil changer i use or something...

In conclusion if you're changing oil, mind who and what oil you use, secondly you bought a very solid gen... Infact mine is still alive.. Should be close to 10 years now. Though its packed somewhere, since am not around

For these toys, 12 hours is too much.
You should not run an air cooled gasoline engine for more than 4 hours at a stretch on average load if you will not incur progressive damage to the cylinder block.
Your 12 hour demand requires at least two units working in relay or get a water cooled system or preferably a diesel engined power set.

12 hours daily means you should change the oil every five days or so, ideally every week. That is some hard running.

There are certain servicing that requires them to remove it and in the process of coupling the engine, they can forget to fix it back.
Alternatively when a gen is not starting and you take it to the mechanic, they usually remove it to know if it's low oil problem, during this check, they can also forget to fix it back. In summary, it is not usually an intentional act but either due to negligence or oversight.

Use Premium Mobil brands.
Some of the best quality around.

Normally every 10days but 14days will be okay if you are using mineral oil but if u use a synthetic oil,every 10days.
Eg of Mineral oil are those Total filling station sells

It does like magic. If I'm not mistaken, I have been doing this for over a decade and it has helped saved alot. Your gen will run almost twice the hours it does on a full tank

That is why I go double my huzzle next year and make enough money so that efcc nor go come my area begin arrest people and leave me behind

Just get a solar solution like Beebee jump that is what I use. You can get two for about 500 k or just slightly above that price. It can take care of laptop, 32 inches LED ETC . You can browse the name. That will reduce your gen run hour

Anybody who knows much about generators and how to maintain it would know that you don't change oil only when it is short
