Hello guys....

The stigma on students that got their BSc from universities in Benin republic is greatly overwhelming and already taken a distorted perception in the mind of average Nigerians.. A large percentage of Nigerians believe this cert are bought or aren't credible enough..

I schooled and graduated from IRGIB AFRICA UNIVERSITY, COTONOU.. One of the few prestigious universities worth thier salt, but I feel the wrongs and corrupt disposition that few universities here have done with reckless abandon might be a big constraint to me...

I'm currently undergoing my NYSC in Imo state and would love to proceed for my postgraduate studies in Unilag, UNN or UNIPORT. But I want to know how these universities welcome this certs.

Do I have an edge or would I be seen differently?
would I be granted admission?
pls I need your advice!

I actually got admitted by University of Alabama in USA with my Benin Republic certificate and I did not even have a first class. Study abroad most times, depends on how you package your application regardless of where you studied.

My only issue now is authentication. Normally, if one wants to study abroad and you have your degree from Nigeria, you have to firstly authenticate at the ministry of Education in Abuja. But since I studied in Benin, that means I will go back to Benin to do it.

But I am not sure of the process, if anyone has insight. Please kindly help.

Well am also facing same issues with the authentication of my Benin Republic certificate..but I think the best way out is to visit the ministry of Education in Benin

The perception is becoming something else..
when I went for the physical verification exercise as mandated by NYSC, I was embarrassed when told to just write an essay of few paragraphs.. I was expecting something different....smth stiffened

I was telling the man if we as graduate that studied beyond the shores of Nigeria are given essay as exercise to measure our intelligence or competency then its has really gone sour...

Anyways thanks for your opinion on the subject..

It depends on the situation. Benin degrees are duly recognized. That's a sovereign nation for God's sake.

Yes essay....
So you can imagine the level of mediocrity portrayed.
I was even writing and a woman told me " ahnahn its too much nuh, stop its okay.. submit your credentials and passport"...and that was the end.

A friend that studied in Ukraine was given an A4 paper to just write half page..that was in camp because according to him he wasn't aware of the verification exercise.....

My institution is very much recognized by CAMES, Higher ministry of Education and NUC... Are you trying to say every certificate obtained from Benin Republic is rejected by the Nigerian system?

You also made mention of certificates acquired from first world countries such as the UK and Australia being regarded as "above standard" compare to the Nigerian bachelor's degree.

Are you trying to say students from the UK can't undergo their post graduate program in Nigeria because they (Nigeria system) considered themselves unworthy....


Pls you might want to expatiate a little on this your assertions..... Its absurd

Truthfully, most Nigerian school would not accept you for a Masters program with that certificate. Worse still is if you decide to study abroad in top international countries like Australia or the U.S, they would tell you boldly that your qualification does not equal their countries Bachelor's qualification.

I know this because I assist a lot of persons with the admission process for study abroad and one of my students is currently facing this. Our best bet is to enrol him for a fresh Bsc program or a top up in the UK

For example, if I were the NUC chairman, I would tell those Nigerian students in Ghana, if they are not in the University of Ghana or the kwame Nkrumah university of science and technology, na akara paper Dem hold as certificate.
