FIFA has dismissed South Africa’s request to have their World Cup qualifier against Ghana replayed.

South Africa made a “formal complaint” to FIFA after the match last month, appealing for a replay after a series of “questionable decisions”, according to the chief executive of their football association.

However, FIFA has now released a statement declaring their request “inadmissible”.

The statement read: “The protest lodged by South Africa has been declared inadmissible by the Disciplinary Committee as it did not meet the requirements foreseen under art. 46 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code and art. 14 of the Regulations of the Preliminary Competition of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

“The decision is subject to appeal.”

Ghana’s Daniel Amartey went down in the South Africa box after minimal contact from defender Rushine de Reuck. Referee Maguette Ndiaye awarded a penalty, which Andre Ayew scored to send Ghana through.

South Africa had only needed a draw to reach the third round of qualification for the 2022 World Cup.

South Africa Football Association’s (SAFA) chief executive Tebogo Mothlante said: “The match officials have decided the game, which is not what is supposed to happen.

“We will be writing to both CAF (the Confederation of African Football) and (world governing body) FIFA — firstly to investigate how the game was handled and secondly to challenge some of these decisions.

“We have already registered with the match commissioner that we will be making a formal complaint.”

He added: “We are very disheartened by their actions and we can't let it destroy the players — when we have the chance to challenge, we will challenge.

“We feel very much robbed because it is not an isolated incident of a penalty. There are just a lot of questionable decisions by match officials and we will get an expert to dissect other incidents, so we can make a strong case.”

I'm responding to the uncritical Nigerian comments that came before yours.

It's odd that no reasons were given. This ruling should have come out last week already, so there definitely was a lot to chew on. So to give a one paragraph ruling is totally unacceptable.

You do know that CAF president needs to do whatever it takes within his powers so that this will be reviewed thoroughly

I'm glad u finally have your thinking cap back on. For me though, I think it's important SA takes a principled stance against this rampant corruption in African football and FIFA that y'all have come to accept as normal.

I've made peace with the fact that SA will not go to the playoffs - we'll entertain ourselves with rugby and cricket in the meantime - but for Pete's sake could u all just put a stop to corruption in your football? Otherwise SA should just join the Oceania region and compete against Australia and New Zealand like we do in other sports, and leave u all to the mercy of brown envelope officiating.

Yeah, they need to decide if it's worth it and not damaging to brand SAFA and Bafana Bafana. But I think they should pursue it on principle, like with the Caster Semenya case.

Hopefully, the ECHR will rule in her favour. SA should push it but I know Infantino is close friends with Motsepe. He will just tell him to kill it and a way will be smoked out to compensate SAFA.

2. Ghana is a better footballing nation (at least at the national level) so they stand a better chance of representing Africa (reason for the attached pic)

3. In the light of their present dismal run of form, they WON'T make it to the fiesta cos I can't find a weaker team in the playoffs.


4. All African teams have always been onlookers in the World Cup. Meaning they are only going to participate at best.

they gave you an answer that's very clear. what do you want them to say. In the 14th min, the foul given wasn't a foul. In the 27th min, the corner kick was supposed to be a goal kick?? is that the answers you're looking for??
