Hello Everyone,
Who is resuming eastern Illinois university in spring 2022? |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by CanotEngiE(m): 9:46pm On Dec 08, 2021 |
Did my interview today 08/12/2021 (Approved ✅✅) But before my transcript let me give a brief history of God’s faithfulness… I’m a solid believer in Jesus Christ and His grace. I have seen him work for me in very strange ways.
I got an RA and TA (that’s double funding) for MSc Elect and Computer Engr Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville TN. I’m to commence Jan 3rd, but when I scheduled My Interview it was in June 2022 ( that was the best regular date), I applied for emergency and got December 7th, but suddenly I received an email that it was shifted to Jan 12 , I applied for another emergency (Never thought it was possible to apply for it twice oo) and it was scheduled for 21st Dec. I wasn’t so comfortable with that date, cos I need to resume my GA 3rd January, so I kept praying, then early hours of Tuesday 7th (around 12:00am) I was prompted in my spirit to check again and saw 8th Dec 8:30am… I quickly booked that date sharp sharp. So today…..
The number of persons, (mainly young people and most students) were really many in Abuja consulate. I believe more than 100 persons, maybe because of surge. It took some time for all the clearance process, so I finally did mine interview past 10:00am. Good news is that I was literally asked only three questions, others were information. Again, just to say that there were a couple of discrepancies in my ds160, like funding was put as father on Ds160 even though I had Assistantship, again contact person in US was different from my I-20, Course of study on ds160 is electrical and computer , but Electrical and Electronics on I-20… The person who told me how to fill the ds160 really confused me, didn’t know I was even to use my I-20 to fill it. I was just praying that the Lord will close his eyes to those errors, cause those guys can be thorough.
Approved ✅✅ Time In: 7:00am Time Out: 10:15am Interview duration: Less than 2mins Assistantship : $36,552 Deficit: $700 VO was a fresh American guy maybe in early 30’s. Counter: 8 I saw him Reject one person, and drills people a lot, sometimes close to 10mins.
Me: Good morning sir VO: Good morning, pass me your I-20, Passport, Ds160 Confirmation Me: Passed VO: Masters in Electrical and Electronics Engineering Me: Yes sir VO: Is it research? Me: Yes sir, I will be carrying out my research in power electronics under the supervision of Prof. Joseph, who is the head of research in Power Electronics. VO: okay,… typing a lot of stuff What’s your Undergraduate? Me: Studied Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi, Now JS Tarka University Makurdi. VO: Good, … typing. I can see you have sponsorship, okay… personal funds of $1000 okay… typing. VO: What will you use your degree for? Me: Immediately after my masters, I will return back to Nigeria to seek senior engineering positions in Nigerian based energy companies like Shell, Schneider Electric, TotalEnergies. These companies are developing solutions to processing and converting renewable energy and I will like to build my career with them. VO: Okay, good… typing… Take this white paper, you will use it at the airport… bla bla bla… I’m keeping your passport, it can take up to seven days to be ready. Me: Thank you very much. Ran away happy and praising Jesus.
There were mixture of rejections and acceptance. But I think many were rejected sha… like one guy who was going for Medicine was bounced. There were four officers attending to people for interview counter 7,8,9,10.
Summary: Prepare yourself for any question, know your research area, have clear funding source and pray, pray, pray, pray… I can’t over emphasize that. Cos some people answer well with good explanations but get bounced, I just don’t get it. 27 Likes 2 Shares |

Darewa:
Please help I would like to apply for a surge date in Abuja. What is the procedure? My Ds-160 is Lagos but I could not get a surge date 'cause they said it is filled.
Do I have to complete a new DS-160 and pay another visa fee?
Thanks You may most likely fill new ds160, but I don’t think you will pay another Visa fee. Just retrieve Ds160, create new one and edit your details. Print that confirmation page and apply for emergency Visa schedule. If approved pick a date. Best time to pick date is between 12:00am and 2:00am and sometimes 12:00noon too. Good luck |

VISA APPROVED✅✅ First of all, I’m very grateful to everyone who posts on this forum. I’ve been an avid reader of every transcript posted here and I vowed to join and post mine when I get my visa as this forum helped me a lot! Visa approved Tuesday 07/12/2021 Abuja consulate Appointment time was 9:15am I got there 8:15am but was interviewed around 12:15pm because there was only 1 VO, the bald white man…he was nice. VO: Good morning please pass your I-20 passport, DS 160 confirmation and visa fee receipt Me: Passes documents VO: So where are you going to in the United States? Me: I’m going to northern Illinois University dekalb Illinois. VO: What are you going there to do Me: I’m going for my master’s in public health VO: Why public health? Me: Public health is in continuation with what I studied as an undergrad which is medicine and surgery. While I was in medical school and even as a practicing doctor I realized one of the problems that plagued patients was lack of access to healthcare. Public health will give me the knowledge I need to work with the federal ministry of health and key stakeholders in the health sector to develop and implement policies that improve patient’s access to healthcare. VO: Have you traveled out of the country before? Me: Yes I have, I’ve been to the United Kingdom VO: Oh really what did you go there to do? Me: I’ve gone for different reasons- went on vacation a couple of times, went for a fashion show and went to present one of my publications in a medical conference VO: What do you do here in Nigeria? Me: I work as a research assistant at bleep teaching hospital. Prior to that, I was a practicing medical doctor for a year. VO: What plans do you have after the public health? Me: I’ll come back to Nigeria to work hand in hand with the federal ministry of health and health maintenance organizations to improve on those policies I mentioned earlier that will improve patient’s access to healthcare. I will also return to my Alma mater where I’m currently working as a research assistant to lecture VO: Who will be sponsoring your education? Me: My parents VO: What do they do? Me: My mom is a corporate lawyer. She’s a senior manager at bleep in Abuja and my dad is a barrister and solicitor, he represents clients in court. I also received a merit based partial tuition waiver VO: Oh nice and how much is the waiver? Me: About 7,000 dollars. I noticed the VO was looking for the waiver on my I-20 so I quickly informed him that the waiver came in after I had received my I-20. I tried emailing the school to send an updated I-20 but they refused and said the letter stating the tuition waiver should suffice and I should present it along with my financials if I’m asked for proof. VO: Okay your application sounds good, I will be approving your visa. So I’ll keep your passport, you can pick it up in about a week. You’ll need your I-20 at the port of entry keep it with you at all times. This white paper will give you information on how to pick up your passport. Me: Thank you very much, have a good day! NB: No documents were asked for, nothing not even bank statements 24 Likes 3 Shares |

Congrats to everyone stepping their foot to the consulate this week. I came across this page after I was delayed and am grateful for all the things I have been reading. Not to worry the heartbreaks might keep you worried for now but the congrats might make you run naked when it’s your turn. I got denied by the Korean VO in Abuja in august after about almost 2 mins of interview then 3 mins of typing I thought I did something wrong till I read a script of a lady he gave visa and denied her 6 months old baby/husband which was so sad. Anyways I want to say congrats to everyone going this morning. If I have any way of contributing I won’t as well hesitate. Thanks and good luck guys!!! 10 Likes |

Good morning everyone
Thanks a lot to those that have been contributing to this thread. I must confess, I've learnt so much after going through the thread.
Please I wanted to ask if it's possible to start my application on January and still get access to funding/GA; would it be too late by then? I could start this month but I've not written GRE yet. Also, is it possible to get funding without writing GRE. Thank you |

Am not too sure about the other courses you wrote but for Data science which is my area currently. One must have a good Mathematics and Statistics background. But with help of tools like Tableau, mysql, etc, it can be more fun not forgetting programming languages like python, R Boss I'm also trying to change a career path from Botany so I applied for Data science graduate cert first and I got admitted. I was able to show I did statistics in my undergrad days and I am self taught in programming. School is University of Arkansas. I'll start the I20 process by January because I am yet to get a POF. Can we discuss privately? |

xxxscholar: If you need someone to properly review and scrutinize your DS-160 form you can send me a message, I am willing to help you cross your i's and dot your t's. Your ds-160 form is the most most important part of your application. It has to be error-free. By the way, I won't be charging a penny for this. Nairaland has been very helpful for me and I need to give back as much as I can.
It doesn't matter if you have submitted your DS-160 already or not. It can always be updated until 3 days before your interview. Hi xxxscholar, I just sent you an email. Please kindly respond. Thank you. |
