Why Are There 4 Different Accounts Of The Resurrection In The 4 Gospels? by Nobody: 12:01pm On Dec 13, 2021 |
Why are there 4 different accounts of The Resurrection in the 4 gospels? Does anyone have a good explanation for this? In Matthew: Mary Magdalene and the other Mary saw an angel. In Mark: Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome saw a young man. In Luke: The women saw 2 men. In John: [Notice there was no angel or young man. Here it was just Mary Magdalene, Peter and the other disciple] "Mary Magdalene went to the tomb". "So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple". "Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb". "The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen". "Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside". "Then the disciples went back to where they were staying" Matthew 28:1-7 1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. 5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” Mark 16:1-7 1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb 3 and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?” 4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. 5 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. 6 “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’” Luke 24:1-8 1 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7 ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” 8 Then they remembered his words. John 20:1-10 1 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” 3 So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. 4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. 8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. 9 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) 10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying. 1 Like |

The writers recorded what they heard from others who were eyewitnesses of the events, only John saw most of the events directly. If we are in a law court and we are trying to get the facts of an event, we don't expect four different Witnesses to give exactly the same narration nah! What everyone wants to know is the correlation not a stereotype account where all the Witnesses will say precisely the same thing. So the points we need is that an innocent young man who happens to be a prophet in the first century was wrongly accused, arrested, arraigned, charged, judged, convicted, sentenced and executed all on falsehood. Evidence that the nation of Israel has been condemned by the God who warned them not to turn against the last prophet He will send to them! Deuteronomy 18:18-19 The rest is STORY! STORY!! STORY!!! |

Just as Christmas is dubious and idolatrous! Resurrection and Ascension too is similarly dubious! Grandpa JW above confirmed that the writers heard from others who were eyewitness of the events. But who were the eyewitnesses they reported from? But Bible compilation is not like a law court! If 4 witnesses give these kind of 4 accounts in a law court, the case will be thrashed against them. Did the eyewitnesses really saw the events? Was the holy Spirit involved in the compilation of these four accounts? Holy Spirit no dey make mistakes as we are made to believe! For example only in Matthew was there an Earthquake and an Angel of the Lord reported coming down then going to the tomb to roll back the stone and then sat on it. This was never reported by the other three accounts! And in Matthew it was the two Marys only that first went to the tomb! Mark includes Salome with the two Marys! Luke says the "Women" not specifying (trying to be safe!) John says it was only Mary Magdalene. So many talking points as Pundits they talk am! 4 Likes 1 Share |

MaxInDHouse: No law court or Judge will accept these types of 4 totally different accounts: In Matthew Mary Magdalene and the other Mary saw an angel. Matthew 28:5-7 Says: The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” In Mark Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome saw a young man. Mark 16:5 Says: As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here In Luke the women saw 2 men. Luke 24:4-6 Says: While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: In John [Notice there was no angel or young man. Here it was just Mary Magdalene, Peter and the other disciple] Mary Magdalene went to the tomb. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple. Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. John 20:6-8 Says Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. 8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. |

AntiChristian: Let's compare this to what Muhammad brought! How many people apart from Muhammad saw or heard any angel spoke with Muhammad? My friend, reality totally differs from make up stories. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were Jesus' disciples who penned down the story. So their writings included what they witnessed and heard from others, in a law court a witness is not only required to relate what he saw but also what he heard from others it's all these that will be summed up to know what really happened. Imagine Muhammad your so called prophet, ordinarily recording what happened in his life has led to strong and weak hadiths. So let's reason from an open mind not just being sentimental. Both Jesus and Muhammad are not from my town, it's what we read and grasp from their life that we are trying to emulate! |

You don't know the job of a court my friend! You think the court is about Nollywood movies? Well many people were killed and tortured all because they are living their lives in harmony with the teachings of Jesus back in the first century, the Roman government was worried as many people from different races were putting faith in the man that was killed and here you are saying the account surrounding his execution and resurrection is what should matter to a real intellectual! Most of you just think dealing with humans is simply a logical process. Billions of people have lived and died with the believe that Jesus was killed for something they don't really understand, and all you have to say is the story surrounding his execution and resurrection is your own problem. Oya go and delete the story from the heads of those believing in it nah! MindHacker9000: |

MaxInDHouse: In that case you can even increase your believe in the 4 different accounts of the resurrection: In Matthew: Mary Magdalene and the other Mary saw an angel. In Mark: Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome saw a young man. In Luke: The women saw 2 men. In John: [Notice there was no angel or young man. Only that the made up stories in the New Testament just makes it clear that the Messiah GOD promised has not yet come as the real Messiah will only come ones and there will be world peace forever 1 Like |

MindHacker9000: How reasonable does that sound to you? A reformer will just come once to reorientate the whole world without any counseling before then? My friend, if you're ready for wisdom let's talk because if the Messiah is not coming to turn us into robots but obedient worshipers of the true God then he can never achieve anything once! For your information, the Messiah is coming to kill all disobedient humans in order to make a way for obedient mankind to enjoy everlasting peace during his Kingdom. So he must first come for a global reorientation of all races which is to be carried out by those who grasp the purpose of his coming {Daniel 12:10} it's after some time that he will have to come back and destroy all disobedient ones! Luke 19:27 I'm with you if you need scriptural backings (from the Old Testament) to prove that the Messiah must come TWICE! Act 17:3 |

MaxInDHouse: Your wisdom is based on 4 different made up stories of the resurrection and also on the fact that all of Jesus' disciples could not recognise Him after His resurrection, how can His disciples who have been with Him throughout His ministry not recognise Him after His resurrection. And you're talking about wisdom! When you are ready for the wisdom of GOD let me know. |

MindHacker9000: My friend, just ask the questions and i'll supply the answers! Jesus was recognizable because he was born through one of Adam's descendants (Mary) so he will surely pick some of his looks from that woman as a human. But after his death Jesus' human body has been used as the sacrifice for the redemption of obedient mankind {Matthew 20:28} that's why the body with which he resurrected is not recognizable anymore but only his attitude remains! Luke 24:35 He died as a human (recognizable by appearance) but resurrected as a spirit being (unrecognizable materialised body) 1Corinthian 15:42-26 Just calm down my friend, you're no longer chatting with misinformed Churchgoers but one of Jehovah's Witnesses, the Bible as a whole is our book, we are the one and only group ordained to TEACH you what is in that book! MindHacker9000:The Parable of the Blind men and the Elephant.. A group of blind men heard that a strange animal, called an elephant, had been brought to the town, but none of them were aware of its shape and form. Out of curiosity, they said: "We must inspect and know it by touch, of which we are capable". So, they sought it out, and when they found it they groped about it. The first person, whose hand landed on the trunk, said, "This being is like a thick snake". For another one whose hand reached its ear, it seemed like a kind of fan. As for another person, whose hand was upon its leg, said, the elephant is a pillar like a tree-trunk. The blind man who placed his hand upon its side said the elephant, "is a wall". Another who felt its tail, described it as a rope. The last felt its tusk, stating the elephant is that which is hard, smooth and like a spear.
