Ticha: Nice Idea. What would you advise, is it better to find tenants on my own or register with letting agencies? |
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by TheGuyFromHR: 9:20am On Dec 18, 2021 |
AirBay: You can do either. If you have the time to deal with tenants yourself (answering enquiry phone calls, taking them to view your property, etc, etc., then you can. If you have neither the time nor the energy to deal with tenants and their potential wahala, get an estate agency so they take that off you. 2 Likes |

@Justwise and recent Naija travellers, After filling the departure form on the Nigeria international travel portal, I put fully vaccinated and attached proof of my cert, at the end it said “you are not required to make payment”, I’m still not sure if this looks right. Pls was it the same experience for you, i even clicked on make payment it wouldn’t let me. |

Domistic: Be careful of your logistics choice. I read on IG of someone who sent a laptop to 9ja with DHL, paid extra for custom clearing and got a teddy bear as the delivered supposed parcel |

brine: It's not for first time buyers though. You can get 5% deposit mortgage (though very scarce) or add government equity loan of 20% to reduce the mortgage borrowed. The caveat for visa when it comes to obtaining a mortgage is basically having at least 9months to 1yr leave to remain before the end of the visa. Even Tier 4 student can get the above mortgage deals or arrangements. 6 Likes |

Osoderi: You can also check glassdoor. Some staff from big companies post their salaries there, their experiences and interview questions. 3 Likes |

Osoderi: You didn't mention the location. The range in the south is 35 to 45k depending on your level of experience. It will be more in London and less in the North. Like someone's suggested try glassdoor to be exact. PS. Give a high rate. They'll tell you how much they can afford if they can't pay your rate. 2 Likes |

AirBay: I always use letting agents and manage the agents. I always request all full applications from potential tenants, speak to the tenants myself, give them our details once they're in and make it my business to know all the rules and regulations and tenancy laws. Now I am more conversant with everything, I'll be managing myself when we return - mainly cos I'll also be dropping to part time work. 4 Likes |

fatima04: That's interesting, thanks Another question, any ideas on how to sort out proof of funds for people that have some of the deposit come from abroad(Nigeria). This includes personal savings, selling personal items, loan repayment from friends, etc . Also, how about all the transactions from lemonade, moneyfex for example? What are those classed as? I might be over thinking this now. |

brine: Not for first home buyers. And most banks will accept less than 18 months on your visa. 2nd tier banks will even take any overseas income into consideration too. 6 Likes |

brine: Banks statements or move the money into your UK accounts and leave it there for 3 months. It's a long time ago now but part of our first purchase was financed by selling my house in 9ja which was paid for in cash (9ja sha, we get liver!) It took about a month to transfer the funds to my UK account and then another couple of months to buy the UK house. No bank has ever asked us for more than 3 months statements so that's my rule of thumb 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Ticha: Madam! I always look forward to your view on properties in the UK.. Kindly clarify the ffg: 1. Can someone on a T2 visa with just about a year living in the UK get mortgage at 10% (even 25%) deposit? 2. Which specific banks should one target? Many thanks. 5 Likes |
