That's normal, but what's not normal is the 10k being constant. Normally it reduces year after year

I wish for an NHS offer so bad I wish to hear what you have to say after few years of working with NHS grin

That's true o, when I saw their package, I just laughed, Some care homes have good offers though. May God grant our heart desires, be it NHS or Care homes, they are both worth it. I've finally gotten an NHS offer, I'm really grateful to God. I still have pending NHS interview invites, it took me 2 months to get here.

What's the base pay of this Care UK‽ So as to help people avoid wasting time by applying to them.

Thanks a lot. Really appreciate. I am currently in the UK, eventually got a job in October from trac.
Valnos:

Emeraloe, use trac.job and NHS jobs. If you have been using both then frequently reassess your support statement and make sure your duties and responsibilities are tailored to the role you are applying for.

You can also directly email NHS trust that do recruit international nurses. Although I think Devon is currently recruiting.

Finally, since the month of may I have been applying for jobs and I only get "unfortunately" , in the last 4 weeks I have gotten 3 interview and I have offer already. I encourage you not to be tired, you will start rejecting job offer soon. Shalom

Yeah, it's the 10k clause that's scary. And it doesn't reduce according to the contract I read. This means I cant leave no matter what since they know I won't be able to pay. I also have to work 9 months on probation. Whatever that means. I had to think very deeply today and realized, my life is actually gonna be in their hands. I have no leverage at all. Also while searching for other home care jobs, I realised their package isn't GOOD at all compared to others. So, what's the stress?. They only offer osce payment, visa and flight ticket. Others I have seen offer these things too plus dbs check, uniform, paid break and leave, launch meal, 2k welcome bonus. One even say dem go pay vacation and also 1k end of the year bonus(5k if you have worked with them for 5 years). My own home care no even give holiday break.. I will work even on holidays on standard rates(other I have seen actually pay more on these days)

I accepted the offer few days and we were at the stage of getting COS, something just mentioned to me.. "do you actually want to be a slave?"
The very next minute, I emailed them explaining why I want to withdraw my application due to personal reasons.
I wouldn't want them to send the COS cause I will be stuck since multiple companies can't provide COS for me at the same time.

I don dust my trac application again.

About my comment on NHS, there is career growth, more flexible working hours, and lesser work load. Also, NHS no fit do the kind wayo some home care fit do.
Like @hunnybee said, what if I made a mistake or dem just wan rope me and decide to take their sponsorship?? I don't think this is common with NHS as it is with home care.
Although, I'm still searching for both but with more focus on hospital now.

Getting an Offer is stressful, I sent series of Emails to recruiters both NHS/Carehomes almost all came back with one unfortunately message or so but that didn't deter me.
First tip is- Your supporting statement is your Trademark. Wrap it real catchy and always look out for
1- Including the name of the NHS you're applying to, so they don't feel it's a general SS(supporting Statement), if possible chip in their core value ethics and also try to make sure all parts of the supporting statement questions are met. I mean things like, what motivates you, why want to work for NHS, what sets you apart and so on.
And watch out for some things in body of the role description about an area you would love to work, some might ask you to prioritize your choice in the body of SS, and you must include it else won't be considered. These little things might cost you, so watch out.
2) Pls Always read the Person specifications. In fact don't apply if u don't read that cos it's from the person specification you'll be able to tailor your supporting statement to fit the role. I personally copy all the essential criteria and paste for them with an editing touch that makes it seem natural. Others might say you shouldn't copy verbatim but trust me if they use an Electronic filter system for selection process which is likely, you'll be picked because those criteria is what is usually inputted in the system.
3) Read through the Job Role to the end, not all jobs u should apply biko, don't go waste your time. They are some they'll specifically state that it is not for international applicants, so watch out so u don't get another unfortunately there. And there are some who says they need Full registration. Watch out too cos I recently applied for one who needed full registration and I got the interview but they scheduled a walk in interview at the NHS not Virtual and I called severally for an adjustment only for it to be adjusted the day of the interview... One hour before the interview, something I had already forgotten about but you know the believing part of me saying I should attend the interview which I did and you could sense they needed someone with complete registration who had already written OSCE. So the interview was more or less a formality cos I got my unfortunately unsuccessful message 2 seconds after the interview. Lmaooo grin

So Mostly apply to Overseas or international adverts and believe me you'll get past this.

And if you believe in prayers pray o, I Did 3days dry fasting...(No be for everybody cool) Cos that was me seeking spiritual help and hoping on God for a miracle against my village People. So getting a Job now is not a walk in the park, it involves your time and Energy and mental readiness cos to be honest I didn't think I'd apply for a Job for almost 3months when I was feeling myself of passing IELTS and CBT once but I was chilled by the sad occurrences cry. I personally applied for 150 jobs on my Trac and 100 on NHS site and countless applications on mail addresses but I have seen someone that applied for 3000 jobs! I opened my mouth and I couldn't close it. where's she now? Royal Marsden.
My two cents!

So please be Hopeful and have faith! It will soon be story. They need alot of Nurses, alot.

Peace Fam grin

What you did is right. The no holiday pay is the height of it sad. What is their base salary/ hourly rate? I understand that some care homes pay higher hourly rate and don't pay for breaks

And you're also correct about the flexible working hours NHS offers. I understand that this is particularly important for people with kids. I doubt that lesser work load thing. About the career progression, yes and no. If it is career progression in relation to money, then no It will take years to earn 40k+ with NHS.

BTW, what do you have want to you career progression to do in Nursing? When you hwve your ILR, nurses can easily move to agency nursing. More money like 28£ hourly or upto 40+£ when it is a late notice booking and more flexibility. You pick when you want to work. The only but is the fact that you don't know where your next shift will be.

Hi. Sorry I got busy.
Their basic pay is £18 pounds (£13.50 before pin). After the probation, it will be increased to £20 and £22 for weekday night duties and £24 for weekend nights.

To be honest,. Their pay is quite good albeit the standard holiday pay thing.

Did you say that there's no holiday? Or if you work on holidays you get standard pay?

Yeah, their pay is good.
According to the contract, I am required to work UK banks and public holidays. I guess that means there is no holiday

BTW,
The manager emailed me few hours ago, telling me to feel free to contact her if I change my mind(of course I didn't tell her the exact reason I withdrew my application).

Yes that is pretty normal. You're a nurse so there's nothing called public holidays for you. In fact you will work either on Christmas or new year. The only thing is that you will get holiday pay for the hours you work (if your employer pays that).

Say if tou work a day shift on a public or bank holiday, you get paid the holiday allowance for that day. If you work night, you only get paid for the hours before the end of that holiday.

It might actually be a good offer that you're ignoring in my opinion. Every care home as far as I know often have a clause of paying them if you leave before 3 years. However most people don't leave except in rear circumstances.

I will advice you have a chat with the manager stating what is giving you cold feet with them. Something in the line of.... while I understand you're out to protect the interest of your company, I feel I am being pinned down with having to pay 10k should I decide on leaving. Not that I plan to, but from my perspective, it is important for me to enjoy where I work and the people I work with without the sense of feeling trapped. I do understand that the norm is for the amount to decrease with the more time I spend with the company. I would be open to discussing this extensively with you to find an alignment for the both of us.

In the end, having this chat wouldn't hurt you since already turned them down. And probably you won't be the first to do so.

It is fairly normal to counter offers here in abroad. Because in the long run, you're both doing eachother a favour. But that naija mentality dey always make us short-change ourselves.

Wow this is enlightening. Thank you so much.
I really don't know other care homes have such clause.
Anyways, I told you the manager emailed that i should feel free to contact her if anything changes. I did that this afternoon and it's positive. She wants a video chat before issuing the COS. Reading through this post now, I will bring up the issue of £10k and ask her about the annual leave during the chat tomorrow.

Indeed, naija mentality is a factor. They are really nice that I began to wonder if dem dey cajole me cheesy

Note: I know I will have to work on public holidays, what I was referring to by "no holiday" was "annual leave". Its not there on the contract. Guess, the solution is to ask questions. smiley

Nothing much.

After getting a job/COS document, apply for a visa and state that you have a dependent. Not sure if stating that you have a child matters to some employers.

Your under 18 child has to apply for a dependent visa, just like you.

See details here: https://www.gov.uk/health-care-worker-visa/your-partner-and-children
