Well it depends. What I was taught was to always make sure my water leaf is more than my afang leaf, also I made use of periwinkls and the palm oil was okay.

That's the adulterated version of the recipe. It was conveniently whipped up to serve as an alternative where Afang is either too expensive or scarce to be afforded.

Also, some people over the years have laid claims to the fact that Afang causes heat around the chest region, so they feel overdosing the soup with waterleaf tones down that after effect.

It's a falsehood, I tell you.

There's a specie of soft Afang leaves that crosses over to Nigeria from Cameroon that doesn't even require waterleaf to be prepared. The moment your waterleaf clouds your afang, then it is no longer Afang soup but another distant derivative of vegetable soup.

Oga, you should be arrested for overloading your vehicle of afang with too many passengers, especially in this era! You smell like a Yahoo boy!

Recipe looks fine for the palates. But your waterleaf is way more than the quantity of Afang you used and I must confess, that defies the originating rules of the soup, as laid down by the Efiks and Ibibios!

Next time, reduce the waterleaf and use a bit more oil. Then don't forget the periwinkle, very important!
