More conditioned? Work rate? Huh? Bless God for tapes of "old football"

Which one of your modern defenders can raise a candle to the Maldini and Cafu I saw.

Joe, the only reason you won't see players floating around is because of coaches instructions. You know it

In the past, a player like Pius Ikedia can drop deep, pick the ball, skip past four to five players, get to the touch line and whip a cross.

Today, it is virtually impossible to pull it off due to the advancement of tactical defending.

If coach likes, let him shout for a player to do it, he would not be able to do it with as much ease as in the past.

Finito.

I keep wondering if the people saying invite him is saying that the coach should bring him to come and start matches or to come see if he can add something additional to come see.

Until the people here start seeing inviting a player to come compete doesn't mean he should come and start, they'll keep on typing what doesn't make sense.

When Okoye was invited, he was in 4th division and was averaging over 2+ goals conceded per match but heaven didn't fall, why's the heaven trying to fall now that some people are calling for someone in 2nd division to be invited to come see if he can add bite to the midfield?

grin grin

On the contrary, I'm kind of happy that Rohr was sacked just before Afcon. A new coach often comes with a run of form.

I can remember Siasia's first game in charge. Giving us something to smile about by thrashing Argentina 4-nil. Just after the bubble gum chewing scam defrauded us at South Africa. grin

Though Siasia later turned out to be a fraud himself, I felt proud as Nigerian that one night. smiley

A coach who knows his B's and C's does not need to rely on a division 2 player. He has to jig the setup. We have too much mad talent.

The year is almost at an end and we haven't been able to start anything about the annual Nairaland Nigeria Football award started by Chief icon4s a few years ago. I'd hate to see us miss out on this year edition, seeing as the award as become sort of like a traditional part of this thread.
On this note, I hereby volunteer to coordinate the award this year as requested by icon4s.
However, I will be limited to coordinating it online only, meaning I won't be able to tak over the responsibility of having the award designed or delivered to the glass house.

Anybody that wish to join me in coordinating it should please indicate.
Thank you.
I would love to work with you on this.

Because the SE is not where you find your quality but where you express it.

There are hundreds of Nigeria origin players doing way better than him. You have to merit a call up, you don't get one because someone likes you.

By inviting him it is CHEATING the system and enthroning mediocrity.

As far as I am concerned, this is what is wrong with Amaju Pinnick.

Before going out to look for a coach, the technical committee supposed to have drawn how we intend to play and the pattern should serve as the yardstick for selecting a coach.

I can Guess we are back to square one with another conservative manager.

Pinnick should have allowed Eguavoen go to the tourney.

Well it is his NFF.

You always miss a big point. There maybe Nigerian origin players doing better than him but do they offer the kind of skill set the manager sees in Kelechi Nwakali?

Some times, you need players with unique qualities to fit into a strategy.

Why play with your details up if you have a division 2 player that fits precisely into your preferred setup?

Do you think when Westerhoff went for a 16 years old local Daniel Amokachi we did not have players in Europe doing well there?

The system remains king and if you have players in obscure league that fit into it, you play them.

At least Eguavoen knows the team's. He knows the players. He understands our football and knows some of the coaching crew.

With a few days to the competition, he can try to get the team up to speed in preparation for the tournament.

You think Morais has an idea about our team?

Well I know the players too but that does not mean I'm a brilliant coach, knowing the players is not automatically going to generate the tactics for us to win the Afcon, well we look at how things unfold in the coming days

There are no issues in this provided they are better than those in the team or offer something more. You spoke against such when Amoo was brought up

Winning trophy does not show whether a coach is offensive or not. Many coaches play negative to win but as I say, those are short term victories and with time it will show that the team is not growing.

By the way, I said I can GUESS he is a negative coach. Note the word guess. Some of you are fond of arguing without getting the context of the discussion.

I don't know Morais but I can Guess he is a negative coach. Telling me he won trophy does not show attacking football.

You are not in contention for the job and you don't know a tenth of what Eguavoen knows about the boys. And Morais does not know a quarter about the boys.

If he comes in, Eguavoen and co will need to school him about the boys.

So you can see why you interjecting in such manner is uncalled for. I want to do a research of him and I made a guess how he would play and then you start barking he won trophies..

I have my reasons why I feel he is negative. I may be wrong but that is my guess.

How did you make a guess on how a coach would play without any information about him other than his name? I tell you how you did it, it is because of your hate for Pinnick so any appointment he makes is automatically bad and there is no need to research before lambasting any potential appointment
