emmanuelewumi: That’s CBN’s role. To provide regulatory approval. I mentioned it earlier. CBN does not participate in the process until it is approached to approve the winning bidder. Did you hear in the news that one of the other banks you mentioned bid higher than Titan but was not approved by CBN? Please let’s stop spreading these conspiracy theories. Clearly the Bank is backed by ex Zenith people but the fact remains that they got it because their bid was the highest. Not because Emefiele bullied Atlas Mara and Rothschild to sell the shares to his friends. Key question should be how did they get the cash to be the highest bidder? 3 Likes |

Lazyyouth4u: As a matter of fact the purchase price was not made public. During the unbundling of PHCN the winners were not the most qualified, highest bidder and those with the financial muscle. Hopefully TItan will buy out retail investors at the price offered to the core investor of Union Bank 1 Like |

emmanuelewumi: The more you try to argue, the more you show you do not know how this process works. How can you compare the unbundling of PHCN assets by FGN to a private equity firm’s sale of its shares in Union Bank? In a private sale, the parties do not have to provide details of the transaction to the public. Please I beg you to stop trying to argue what you have no experience in. Stick to the stock market that you know. Merry Xmas!! 3 Likes |

Oga Emma, you get time. You should have realized all this time that this ashi always want to engage you in argument to make her look relevant or sounds like someone productively engaged beside social media. We have been exposed and know that the regulatory body calls the shot in big matters like this. And some people interest must be protected or represented Please stop making her get noticed which is all she wants. How can a nobody want to take over a bank of such existence. Why is cbn still holding on to unity bank 12 Likes |

Biafran4life: A bi oo. The seller and buyer must get the permission or approval. The seller wants the highest price, but it is the buyer that needs to be careful. Even if you want to pay the highest price for the acquisition and it is not approved by CBN, you have to back down. After such acquisition the license of the bank can be withdrawn by CBN. Most of the top bankers have skeletons in their cupboard and CBN can make it public at the right time. Otudeko that was recently shown the way out, ought to have been sacked from the board of First Bank more than 20 years ago. We all know how First Bank lost $100 million about 20 years ago in the Investor International Limited acquisition of NITEL. And he was involved in the deal. Rather First Bank sacked the CEO of First Bank ie Bernard Longer, but other board members who approved the loan which included Otudeko were left alone. Zenith Bank and Access Bank had been in discussion with Union Bank for months. But from no where, without any clue Titan became the buyer. Jim Ovia started his banking career at Union Bank Oba Akran branch Ikeja in 1971. Succeess is the best form of revenge. It had always been his plan to buy the company he once worked for. Jim Ovia won't mind paying a huge premium for the acquisition of Union Bank Wole Oshin started his career at Crusader Insurance. His greatest achievement was when his company Custodian Insurance bought Crusader Insurance and he Wole became the oga of his former bosses. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Donbrig: If you have done government contracts in Nigeria AND/OR are close to the political class, you will understand Emma As far as these kinds of deals are concerned, there are two kinds of people in Nigeria: 1. those who actually control things but do not wish to be publicly associated with the things they control and 2. those who have the illusion of control over things but are merely permitted to look like they control things to the masses on behalf of the first class that have actual control Go figure. 10 Likes |
