[quote author=mctfopt The batteries are in absorption now. I've taken the measurement three times now with digital Meter, two batteries read 14.4v and the other two read 14.3v Voltmeter reading now are 14.4v, 14.3v, 13.9v and 14.3v. The digital meter reading and that of voltmeter should be the same, but they are not. I'll charge the battery individually and check it again tomorrow. Thanks |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by isangjohnson: 9:06am On Dec 27, 2021 |
I mean 14.4v each and 14.3v each. That's 14.4v, 14.4v, 14.3v and 14.3v from the digital meter. |

AndroBlaze: At the bolded: What do you do, if like it happened in an instance, the Seller was selling a Well-Used battery as New one. He kept it on charge, just before the Buyer arrives. Buyer came in and measured the voltage and it was well within acceptable limits. A few days after purchase, Buyer has been noticing that the Battery does not Hold-up for more than One hour (when it should hold-up through-out the night, based on Load value applied and Battery specification). My Question (to you and other Gurus in the House): -Did the Voltage Check help the buyer? - What other Checks/Method can a buyer perform on a Battery, at the point of purchase, to ensure that he is not being sold Lemon, for a New battery? This will help everyone, as the market is full of reconditioned, dead batteries nowadays. 3 Likes |

Good morning. So based on the drag about "Idle Consumption" and "No Load Consumption" Just got to the workshop now and I'm about to make a test now. A bench power supply as the Battery and my 24v 800/1600w PSW Transformerless inverter. Not sure if I can upload a video directly here. If not, I'll do very good pictures. cc Dam5reey , Dollarnaira *** seems uploading video directly isn't possible here. I dont have a YT channel. Would lookup a way to present a video. 2 Likes

Do any one recommend buying luminous tubular battery especially the ones sold on jumia? |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ewizard1: 10:00am On Dec 27, 2021 |
So I have decided to use GiF and Photos for interpreting results. Picture 1 The 2 test apparatus with their leads laid out. Picture 2 Connect the battery to the inverter when it's off. Noticed the quick 0.05A draw then down to 0.00A. That's the capacitor getting charged. Picture 3 The inverter (still off) connected to the battery. Power Supply detects 0.00A draw. Picture 4 The inverter turned on with "No Load" Power supply reads 0.56A. (My Opinion) There isn't and shouldn't be consumption for an inverter when it is in OFF state. Also, there isn't any term for it. The terms "Idle Consumption" and "No Load Consumption" is the same consumption with different pronunciation. 8 Likes

mctfopt: isangjohnson: in addition to the good advice above. A hybrid inverter with inbuilt cc would have been the best for you. Most hybrids have idle consumption of 20 to 50w, that behemoth inverter you have there is known to have idle draw of 120 to 150w. When you multiply by 24hrs..you realize that what you have is only 2.5batts as the idle consumption is sapping the energy of 1.5batts. If you can locate a pulse repair charger. Connect Ur batts in parallel and pulse for 48hrs. If you can't afford that, you could try using it inline while the inverter is working..moving from one battery to another..48 hrs per battery...n repeat Lastly, you can buy a batt load tester usually sold by battery sellers. Connect to each battery and check the voltage, . You can conduct the test when the batt is reading 14.3v and above.. remember to turn off the cc charging breaker, when doing this test

I agree with the bolded as that has been my own experience too. You could even notice the battery voltage gain up to 0.3 increase in volts when you switch off the inverter when not in use. I like your workshop, na workshop wen de non de do anything na em de look organised ewizard1: |

Dam5reey: You missed the point. From his experiment, he has just debunked the emphatic position you took yesterday that an inverter that is SWITCHED OFF consumes power/energy continuously. Also, it is now clear that you were mixing up "idle state" with "No Load state" yesterday. We hope you can take the same correction you wanted someone else to take yesterday. Anyways, each time I come here to read posts, I do with an open mind and a learner's mindset. Ready to learn and take corrections coz I hold everyone here in high esteem. I encourage everyone here to do the same as well so that we can all learn. 9 Likes |

Dear Odimbannamdi, different company will make/design there inverter differently. My mother's Schneider inverter while switched off display this light(see the first picture). The source of the power of the light is not spiritual but from the battery. See the second picture while the same inverter was switched on. What Dam5reey said is true & valid for some inverter. odimbannamdi: 4 Likes

sintolord: Thanks for the clarification, Oga Sintolord. .it definitely varies from inverter to inverter and not a given for ALL inverters. What just took me off was the assertive tone with which he took the position, and the whole terminology mix up. I honestly was beginning to get worried coz I don't don't a large battery bank like most of our Ogas here... ..Make my meter land so that I can perform my own test. Thanks again for your contribution. |

Tesla to buy Mercedes Benz My dear Benz. This will propel Tesla to majorly manufacturing on three continents of Asia, North America and Europe. While VW made a quick entrance into Battery Electric Vehicle space, BMW and Mercedes Benz were foot dragging. Now the greatest fear of legacy automakers being taken over by electric startups is unveiling. 2022 is gonna be pretty exciting in the electric vehicle space. I seriously hope we can begin investing in this sector (I for one won't mind owing a purely BEV - not even hybrid). If tesla is outside reach at the moment, BYD is one Electric car company that is promising to make owing a BEV a walk in the park. It can at least help in short distance commutez in the light of the useless fuel price hike that is soon to bedevil the citizens. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJBaxUg67S8 |

New to inverter stuff.. Have interest and I need quotation for 2 different set up... So I can know what to budget. 1, smart TV LED 32 inches and dstv ... 8 pieces of energy saving bulbs... 1 standing fan and 1 ceiling fan... And charging a laptop and phones 2, a fridge the fridge is a single door fridge... smart TV LED 32 inches and dstv ... 8 pieces of energy saving bulbs... 1 standing fan and 1 ceiling fan... And charging a laptop and phones I'll be glad if I can know what to budget for dis 2 different set up... Tnx |

For those with experience using budget PWM controllers I had a setup with 24v panel and 12v battery with a 30A pwm controller. It was working properly but I read charging would be faster from here if everything matches so I got a 24v inverter and 24v battery. Normally the arrow on the controller blinks but now in the morning the panel icon comes up and the arrow just stays steady and the battery voltage barely increases all day. The controller has 12/24v so I'm confused. Has anybody experienced this? (ps. I know I should upgrade to mppt and would do that when I get funds or an mppt fan dashes me |
