TAO11:

An eyewitness’ account furnished with quotes and full references have its way of inflicting pains on folks with wonderfully low self esteem like you.

I feel your pains.

The only pains in your eye witness account is describing the palace of your so called most powerful king in ruins, run down and dilapidated more than 20 years after the Yoruba wars.. Now is that truly a great and powerful king living like a pauper?
Your eye witness only used a sweet way to humiliate your king. Who calls a mud hut a castle? or says it has high steps? we all know that is definitely not true..
Your witness comes from a place where there are real Castles, magnificent pillars and thick walls.. so he surely knows the difference.
He even said his horse climbed up the high steps.. To where? The Oni's living room? such disrespect of a "great king"

Go and sit down.. You are looking for ways to upgrade your low status, however you will remain down there.

PS: Did I remember to teach you that Cyril Punch was here in the 1880s, 1890s, and early-1900s (when pack animals are now more accessible for trips) as opposed to the 1400s and earlier (which is the focus period of the Benin to Ife trip in question)?

UMUAZEE:
[s]You must really be stupid (though u have proven to be) to believe it will take almost 2 years to walk from Benin to Ife. The white man must have really filled your brains with dust and smoke before they released you people from slavery and returned to Africa. No wonder you believe Oduduwa fell from the sky in chains.

Can you ask your white overlords how long it took them to walk from one city to another when they were exploring Africa? Some of them
(like Mr. Cyril Punch) definitely visited Benin, Ife, Oyo and many other places during their exploration. so ask them how long it took them to walk from Benin to Ife, or from Ife to Oyo, or from Oyo to Benin.. Mumu like you.

An Edo man will walk from Benin to Ife in less than 2 weeks.[/s]
Again, I feel your misery. It is well expressed. cheesy

BTW, I noticed that even you yourself do not believe that your own reply here can match up with my actual comment which you attempted to reply here.

I know this because you are dead-scared to quote my comment in full — hence the reason why you cut out a huge and a crucial chunk of my comment.

The crucial chunk which you’ve cut out is as follows:

Datum 1: C. G. Okojie’s “Ishan Native Laws and Customs,” p. 210. provides the first data as follows:

The walking trip from Uromi (in Ishan) to Benin City on a course of some 50 miles “traditionally” took an average of 5 months.

~ Cited in A.F.C. Ryder (1965), p.27.

This piece of crucial information therefore confirms to anybody with a minimum of 1 brain-cell that the long distance trekking convention in this part of the world in ancient times is radically different from what a 21st century Nairaland troll wants it to be.

In other words, they must have evolved a convention of camping for ‘x’ period of time for every ‘y’ miles of trekking they make — especially when it’s a group of people of diverse ages as opposed to one person only; and especially when the olden texts also clearly admit that the messengers made slow paces.

The bottom line here, for the genuine seekers of facts, is that since Uromi to Benin city took an average of 5 months traditionally, it is absurd for any sane person to even contemplate that Benin to Ife would therefore have taken 2 weeks traditionally.

The following link shows my actual original comment in full. The comment which he was desperate that no one should see in full:

I know you are frustrated that I am punching holes in your useless write ups lol..
abeg just ask your white colonial masters if it took them that long to travel from one city to another during their exploration of Africa..
You can even research their journals.. You will definitely find their travel times in the journals.

Mugu like you.

You have done a great job expressing your misery, low self-esteem, and frustration. Kudos boy. smiley

We curse your tormentor now, today & forever. Ise. Sorry ehn. cheesy [I’m dying holding back my laughter] grin

Having said that, since you had switched on your Edo blind-mode; I will have to re-debunk you again by doing a copy/paste of what you were too scared to read earlier. See the comments below. Ring a bell?

Did I remember to teach you that Cyril Punch was here in the 1880s, 1890s, and early-1900s (when pack animals are now readily accessible for trips, especially trade) as against the 1400s and earlier which is the focus period of the Benin to Ife ritual trip?

When the debate is lost, self-refuting slanders quickly become the tool of the loser. cheesy

Your goal here is to trick your gullible Bini brothers & sisters into thinking that the above picture was taken at old-Oyo, i.e. the Oyo which was the empire.

However, your attempt here is another epic fail for the following reasons and facts:

(1) The embedded metmuseum link to the picture says the photo was taken in the early-1900s. It reads:

Date: Early 20th century.

(2) The location of old-Oyo (i.e. farther north and not far from the Niger River) had become uninhabited and abandoned since the early/mid-1800s.

(3) Your photo is thus not of the imperial palace of the Oyo Empire (i.e. old-Oyo) as the empire ended and its location was abandoned since the 1800s.

(4) Your photo thus was taken at an entirely different location some hundred years after the empire ended and was abandoned for a new camp-location south.

(5) For a taste of what the “imperial palace” of old-Oyo (i.e. the Oyo empire) looked like, please refer to my 1st attachment below.

Its annotation reads: King’s Palace (Afin) Oyo.

PS: See also my 2nd attachment (from a 1903 paper) to have an educated grasp of the office of the Ooni in comparison to the office of the Alaafin.

Tao11 I saw something very interesting in Oba Akiolu’s Interview at 9mins,
Did you know he is a descendant of Aromire the. son of Ife Prince Olofin Ogunfuminire and the owner of Lagos Island on both his mother and fathers side ?

.

I didn’t know about his mom and dad before now, but it’s not so surprising that they’re descended from the founders of Eko, viz. the Aromirẹ family.

What I knew before now is that Aṣipa (i.e. the father of Ado who was born of a Benin mother) was one of the Awori chiefs at Iṣẹri of Ifẹ descent; according to what historians call the Lagos account.

Thanks for sharing.
