I recently have this idea to setup a pharmacy shop but I'm not a pharmacist. I want to venture into this area which I don't know and someone told me I need to be a registered pharmacist to be able to pull it. My plan is to employ a pharmacist and nurses to run the shop. How easy/hard is it to get a pharmacist and register the business plus operating it?

My budget is around 20m. Will that work?

So please must I be a pharmacist to own this business or is employing one enough?

It is even too much.
My younger sister is a pharmacist working with a British hospital and from the information I discovered you don't necessarily need up to that to get started.
You also do not need to be a registered pharmacist but one whom you can rent his or her license

Some years back, you can open a pharmacy easily without being a pharmacist.
These days, you need to draft an agreement with a pharmacist, signed by both parties in the presence of a lawyer. He registers the pharmacy as his own, works there and he's paid a stipulated amount of money monthly, agreed by both parties.
You handle the business while he takes care of the other aspect of the business.

Just spoke with my sister. According to her between 7 to 10 m is enough and Annual rent of license is between 800k to 1 m

I've set up more than 10 pharmacies for different people in Lagos.

Good evening sir.
You can open a pharmacy even without being a pharmacist.
The first thing you will do is to look for a pharmacist who is ready to use his license for you. You can either employ him as a full time pharmacist or R and G (register and go)
If you are employing as a full time, you will have to pay him salary everymonth and you will also pay for the licence separately. He may decide to charge #800k for licence annually and #100 to #150k monthly salary.
If it's just RandG, you will be paying for the licence alone and he won't have any other business with the pharmacy unless if his presence is being required by PCN during inspection or Visitation.
You can get an R and G for as low as #600k depending on the location.

You will also employ a pharmacy technician or Pharmaceutical technologist incase you don't want a full time pharmacist.
Nurse is a no no. Nurse does not know anything about drugs.
Also, if you want to open a pharmacy, with the budget you have, open a wholesale pharmacy.

I have a Pharmaceutical technologist who has been managing a wholesale pharmacy for a Catholic organization. He has been doing so well and the shop is growing but he was never appreciated(working with those Rev sisters is like hell) .He is planning resign and setup his own pharmacy or chemist but he doesn't have money. If you can win him to your side, you won't regret it in as much as u appreciate his work.
NB: He knows where to get drugs at cheaper price, He has contacts in idumota drug market and he knows market prices so you won't have any problem.
