Wire mesh is still a form of reinforcement same as iron rod, but iron rod is thicker, me i will always use 6mm rod for the reinforcement. Placed on the concrete? i believe is a typo since he said it will set afterwards.

BRC wire mesh is made of similar material just like the reinforcement bars but of a minimal diameter.

You're cracking your walls with precision, pleasing to the eyes, perhaps is because you doing the piping after plaster, i prefer pipping before plaster.

Thanks.

Was worried.

I appreciate your comments.

I saw an estate with houses with no German floor, someone dug out all the sand/less than 1cm concrete floor to reveal that the walls of the house stood on big stone slabs but no proper German floor.

Then has to cast the German floor with the walls in place.

The estate is known for damp walls as well as sand coming out of the floor from activities by ants.

Don't know much about building construction but from what I know from a lot of reading and videos, if the foundation is so important, one had better do it once and do it right.

Anything less mean tearing down and rebuilding or patch solutions for the the rest of the life of the building.

Those who have lived in such houses can testify to the trouble they pass through from such shoddy work.

I even read of giving the concrete slab a base of coarse aggregates, which may add to the cost, but the reasons provided were very sound.
bro i have personally lived in such a house back in my university days and will personally check house foundations before renting except it is the upper floor, people think these things are minor but there are not,
During raining season the floor becomes wet, i can personally feel the wetness with my bare hands.
The walls are usually wet, even when it dries off, and you mistakenly rub your body on the wall, your cloth will be stained by the paint.
The plaster will be falling out in particles around the swollen parts, your room will always be sandy lolz.
Some certain type of flies/insect find solace on the wall because of moisture.
Yes even though there's this concrete mixture poured, am certain is not up to 2inches self, yet some type of earthworm will sometimes creepout from beneath the tiles in the bathroom, very irritating. and sometimes in my bedroom.
Bro my closet the clothes in my wardrobe, i see mucor on them, especially those near wall.
At a time i have to switch my room to a room with two adjacent windows, because of the odour, when this moisture trap air, it tends to release bad smell. Air freshener does the job too.
The only relief is the Fact that raining season will pass.

Me i will never recommend a house without German floor, unless the client insist, but i will spill out all the repercussions and will not take the blame when it starts.

IMO, they serve different purposes.

Iron rod gives strength to Concrete, far better than Wire Mesh
Wire Mesh holds the Concrete together, under stress of usage, preventing small chunks from breaking-off, than when you use Iron Rod.

If you notice, floors of places like a Petrol Station, which enjoy high traffic, uses Iron MEsh instead of Iron Rods.
Iron Mesh is also a cheaper way of achieving the objective, since you can actually weave Iron Rods into a Mesh. undecided

For Beams and Columns - Iron Rods
For Flooring - Iron Mesh

Nice one @Topsy!
I can see that you have advanced from destructive breaking of Walls, in order to put Pipes in-place, to using a Concrete Cutter to do a neat and non-destructive job. Welldone.

Do u recommend MEP Piping before plastering?
It's better if done before plastering.
Plastering makes a wall thicker and tougher.
Perforating it after plastering can cause weakness, cracks and the likes.
Note: it's harder to break a plastered wall.

Whether you agree or not, you will still have to FLOOR your House and floor it properly.
Now, the next question is: What is the Cost difference between "flooring" and "German Floor"?
Answer: German Floor is Costlier, way more costlier, than flooring!

Next Question: Do l need a German Floor or just Flooring for a bungalow?
Answer: it depends on the land you are building on. Some lands are such that your foundation requires that you go the extra length of doing a German floor (l am discussing a Bungalow now) because the land is not solid (Swampy, Waterlogged, Sandy soil, etc). [s]If your Land is solid, red soil or hard Ibadan rocks, you dont need a German floor for a Bungalow. [/s]

Finally, German floor has some inherent benefits it adds to a building, which you will lose if you dont do it.
[s]If your Soil is good, you can do without a German floor in your bungalow. [/s]
Alternatively, you can Beam-link your foundation and then do flooring (if you soil is hard and dry and it is a Bungalow).
Need l mention that you should not skip on using enough Cement, at that level.

NB: All statements are made with reference to a Bungalow

This is misinformation.

We do it only for plumbing piping. Majorly in the toilet. We don't do that for electrical and AC piping. Before we can achieve all these cutting, generator must be on site.

There is no way we will not break walls during pipe fixing and we use cutting machine if the client provide generator or power supply on site to use.

I'm a bit confused. Are you referring to houses without DPC or houses without German floor?. Are both same?.

I’m actually not looking for Wichtech, Tilcor or others within the class.

They’re good but there are other great products out there that can stand shoulder with them.

I’ve used all the brand names and I can tell there’s really not much difference. My humble opinion though.

_____

If I share pictures of brand names with high price tags here, you can hardly tell the difference.

Over time, the difference will show!!!!

Yes it looks same at first, but, give it 3-5 years and you will see the difference.

A wire mesh can do the anti-crack work.

***A BRC wire mesh saves time by eliminating the rebar tying process on site. You can spread 1000sqm of it within 30mins. It will probably take a week to tie that with 6mm.

***It also helps to reduce labour cost (money saving)

***Reduces initial purchase cost..

Our year end summary, 2021.

Dear valued customers and friends, we hereby present to you the summary of our activities for the year ended 2021. We know you look forward to knowing how we fared in the face of the challenging economy we operated within in the outgoing year 2021.

2021 started with a lot of economic scepticism in the wake of the turbulence generated by the global pandemic, Covid-19, and as such the construction industry was shaky, as new projects were few and far between. Worries about the economy and funding for ongoing projects was prominent, and contractors and traders expressed fears of a low level of patronage in the new economic order where there was scarcity of funds as a result of lowered operations in other sectors, which reduced money circulation to the barest.

We assembled a new working team during 2021, and with this team, a lot of our work improved tremendously to the point that we are close to our targeted level of engineering process improvements. We also hope to add more good hands in the finish stages of our operations.

We are carefully optimistic of a robust working environment in the coming year 2022, even with the rumoured removal of fuel subsidy system, which might increase the level of inflation to very high levels. We are ready to take on more challenges, execute more contracts with the integrity, speed and precision we have been known for.

But in all, we experienced some appreciable level of construction activities in 2021, this was as a result of the trust our clients and customers reposed in us from previous years. In all, we worked on 14 different buildings of which 5 of them were new buildings we started in 2021. We also completed and handed over about 2 new houses in 2021, while the rest are in different stages of completion, and work is going on in almost all of them.

We thank you all for all your support in the passing year 2021, and promise to keep living up to your expectations in 2022.

May God bless you all.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Rightly put

It is really not in the size of the rebar but the placement.

If BRC wire mesh is placed accordingly, it surely will serve it intended purpose (providing tensile strength to the German floor).

Hence,I will be more concern about the placement rather than the rebar size, if BRC wiremesh is just place on the ground(Filing or dpm) and concrete poured, then the intended purpose has been defeated.

It must be placed on concrete cover for it to provide tensile strength to the oversite concrete.
