Who cares what people think?
This mindset is self destructive

This mindset of what will people says actually affected someone I know, which eventually leads to depression and unfortunately leads to death.

Congrats. Please note that the information I shared is 99% accurate for Glasgow (or maybe Scotland). I have never visited London or England and so don’t know if the same applies 100%. I know similar from reading but never been there and don’t know what applies. You might wanna confirm from people who live and stay there.

Blessings

Chreze, what you shared is so similar to the situation in England too. Just nodding my head in affirmation with most of your postulations, even though I stay in Yorkshire.

Lool not confident yeah.. I'm self trained and sat for certification and only 2 months+ physical working experience I don't think that is a crime chief .. I actually got an NHS job in Scotland as an information analyst( a softer cushion into data analyst role) while applying from 9ja but my wife got a better medic job package. Presently my job search for info analyst is limited to Southampton and no job openings as at yesterday. That is why have I been considering starting with anything or just child caring at home

But chief, I never said so .......... Whilst looking for an alternative, my expectation would be you worked on honing your skills, network with data analyst, understand the working environment better, use YouTube to research interview questions etc etc .........

Remember, it's not about your today, but your tomorrow.......... wink

Hi all

Happy new year

Is it advisable to buy USD if there's No GBP available and then convert on arrival?

I am thinking conversion rates may not be accurate or maybe I'm just over thinking things

Don't.
The USD to GBP rates usually work out to less than you would have gotten had you bought GBP direct with your naira.
If you are buying black market in Naija, just buy GBP direct with your naira.
If you are getting PTA in $, convert to naira and buy GBP before you come.

Really?
Probably some cartelised attempt to manipulate prices, I shouldn't wonder.
I gather CBN's just 'adjusted' the exchange rate, so that should feed through to prices by Tuesday.

Covid has opened many companies eyes and many roles can be remote now so don't limit yourself to only Southampton. Sometimes it not even listed on the job that it can be WFH.

I would apply for anything. Then when offer comes you can turn it up or down based on your needs. It even gives you the experience to grow yourself in interview

I like where the HRGuy said "in my admittedly biased" opinion. That's because there is no right or recommended answer to your request for advice, all you're going to get are opinions.

I have 3 children, and I also looked after my children when we first arrived and I hadn't gotten a day job. No biggie, I still do it.
However, if I have one child like you do, I will put her in [affordable] daycare right away and take any day job that pays enough to cover the costs and leave me with something. I did not enjoy sitting at home during the winter months with 3 children, separating fights and getting homework done, only coming out in the evening when it was already dark to march off to a night job which I did not enjoy. I was unable to get anything much done in the day time or even get to know the new city I was living in, because marching 3 children around to the city to explore was definitely not something I had much energy for.

Again, our Nigerian women dey try in many ways, and I'm no sexist bigot, but do not leave your madam as the sole reasonable earner for any length of time.

They will soon come for my head, so make I tune out first.

Matching 3 children to explore the city cracked me up but you had the energy to born them.

Yes you can. But - you most likely will need to buy outright unless you can show evidence of continuing income enough to pay the mortgage and your living expenses from somewhere and have a visa longer than 24 months. Your deposit will also be much higher as well as higher interest rates. Basically it's not impossible

Thanks for the response
