mfm04622: .. Please quote the exact section of the Constitution where this was stated. .. .....That was why the state assembly was made to perform those functions. .. I don't get this.. Where exactly is it stated inside the Constitution?? .. So, if we go back to each Local government having their legislative assembly, imagine the cost. .. They would settle the costs from the LGA Allocations which they get. .. And what will they do after passing the budget? Nothing more. .. The LGA Executive Governing Council would find ways to implement the budget. .. Even the state assembly, how many laws do they make in a year? Do they perform any oversight function on state governors? They make laws.. Yess.. They Do. And they perform Oversight Functions over the various State Ministries and Agencies and Departments. |

michlins:The State Government Projects So Far had never targeted the Grassroots Development. That is where the Local Government comes in. .. In America, there are Mayors to Conties and Districts., And their duties and functions had never clashed with those of the State Government. These are the equivalent of Local Governments. |

modsfucker:That's it... A lot of people would have the opportunity to partake in the governance of the people and the resources of the country. With this, any body that wants to enter politics can easily start from the grassroot level and try his best there. 1 Like |

mrvitalis:It's because the State Governments neglected them, due to the threats it may pose to them.. When the Local Governments become fully functional, they would be closer to the people. And due to the fact that they are autonomous,, the State Government Actors cannot dictate to the Local Government Actors on what to do. Thus, the thirst for absolute control of power, popularity, and resources had made the various State Governments to limit the powers of the LGAs, and it had made lots of people to think that LGA is an artificial set-up |

michlins:You think that being in government means the same thing as being redundant and feeding lazily off the government funds?? Thus, being in Government is a bad idea?? See my brother, the amount of people that are in control of the government is directly proportional to the amount of government initiatives in place, and inversely proportional to the amount of free-money that is available for the people in government to share while they had been idle. .. If you think that there should be lesser people in government, then let Nigeria scrap State Governments altogether, and leave only the Federal Government to be functional. |

BluntCrazeMan:first we don't need bicameral legislature. We don't need local governments at least for now. Until we expand our purse. Let's streamline government agencies. We don't need efcc and ICPC plus fraud units of the police force. Let's collapse them under one unit. We have lots of duplicate title here. A ministry will have two ministers and lots of permanent secretaries? 1 Like |

michlins:You're right for the most of the things you mentioned here. But you see that of Local Government, I will categorically tell you that most of the tax funds that is being currently generated in Nigeria by the State Government and Federal Government arms are the funds that are supposed to be generated by the Local Government Arm. And you should also know that the State and the Federal Government arms are doing very shoddy jobs in these aspects. .. I am trying to let you know that the Local Government would expand our purse adequately and properly. |
