Just accept you don’t have enough information about sweden and u think you do, there are ways in every country and there are flaws in every country. Portray more of the positive side of sweden and not promoting another country here. It is people like you that shout on social media about the bad sides of Nigeria making it look like only Nigeria has the problem meanwhile some countries are also facing the same issues as Nigeria , bribery, corruption etc, some are even worse than Nigeria but their citizens hardly post it on social media.

If people are to say all good about a country won’t you question the credibility?

No one is saying is bad in Sweden, why is it hard to comprehend this ?

There is no short cuts in life and stop thinking the way you thinking now cos that’s very misleading to people.

At this point, you expend so much energy trying to discourage people from coming to Sweden but in reality your first issue came from the fact that you started out by searching for the cheapest option in terms of university to study and I bet you were also looking for any course that’s easy to gain admission…That’s the first misstep people do when they are desperate to get out of Naija.

If you’re leaving Naija to any non-English country (including the English ones) you should look out for the schools prestige and the course should be viable…Yes everyone will struggle but you won’t compare doing a finance or international management degree at a top 3 uni to studying sociology at the 20th university in ranking. A finance guy will probably have more options if they put in the work.

Also if you’re moving to a Scandinavian country don’t be expecting Eko lifestyle, drop that at the airport.

You Know what? If you're going to Sweden to study, just face it and be focus. And if you're going to the UK to study please you're free to go. Nobody is forcing anybody.

Then secondly, maybe we should create a WhatsApp group JUST FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN STUDYING IN SWEDEN, AND NOT FOR DISCOURAGERS. Because I don't understand why some people will be promoting a country in another country thread.

We are not saying UK is bad, UK is not bad. But one have to start from somewhere.

So please, if you're interested in going to Sweden, don't doubt it And also be positive.

I wish us all the BEST OF LUCK

It would be ok if everyone gets information from here, we all drop tips and advise to people about sweden, it will be kept for long period of time. The focus of this thread should be Sweden, nothing more nothing less. Any question is welcome, people here will answer to the best of their knowledge

Highlights of Sweden
There is room for PR/Citizenship in Sweden after studying
You have free education in Sweden if you are on work permit
You can bring your family(Spouse and Children) with you when studying
There are scholarship opportunities, SI, school scholarship etc
You can get government support for your children provided you are not working (mothers)

Please y’all I read from someone previous post asking about how life it’s in Sweden. Now when someone ask such questions shouldn’t we give a candid reply on both good and bad sides of the country?

Isn’t it best if people share their experience living in Sweden so that an aspiring student can make his or her plans before moving to a country?

Please can someone explain to me how peoples experiences are discouraging, cos I know if I had a solid plan and trusted my plan nothing in this world will discourage me to engage in it. Just saying people shouldn’t be so sensitive because someone shared their experience on here.

Bro sharing your experience is ok but advising him to go to UK because he doesn’t think studying Law would be ok in Sweden because of language, when people can learn the language. Some people speak five languages here. We are in Swedish thread to talk about Sweden not comparing 2 countries. If he had told him there is language barrier that he should be prepared for it, it would have been ok, he didn’t say it.

You seee? Not a single tangible reason as to why sweden stands out from other countries that offer better opportunities!
mbachidi:

Highlights of Sweden

You have free education in Sweden if you are on work permit - story! How many people go back to school whilst working full time? Moreover this can change anytime if a political party rules it out. Just like free education stopped in 2011 or so.
You can bring your family(Spouse and Children) with you when studying - just like most other country
There are scholarship opportunities, SI, school scholarship etc - again, just like most other countries
You can get government support for your children provided you are not working (mothers) - again for the 3rd time, just like most other counties.

We are not comparing sweden with other countries in this thread. This is Swedish thread talk. If u don’t want people to come to Sweden, create a thread, Anti-Sweden or if u want people to go to UK, go to UK thread, u don’t see people in Canada thread saying people should go to USA because they speak French in Canada or see people in USA thread saying people should go to Canada because Canada offers quick PR. As for this thread, if people are making enquiries about sweden education don’t advise another country, just drop ur reviews or experiences.

But bro would you let your kid to study law in Sweden if he is not fluent and not a citizen of Sweden ?

See it’s factual that language can be learnt but that takes years and most people who tend to learn the language end up after “sfi c” which is likely won’t give you the language qualification to practice law.

Language requires time and good support background which most immigrants don’t have here. So let’s say you learning Swedish now and not eligible for Csn how do you pay your rent and other expenses and still focus on the language?

And moreover I don’t think law programs are in English, the honest truth is most people here don’t want to hear the negative sides because they see it as discouraging and that’s fine. But we shouldn’t curse people out for their opinion.

Do I think a Nigerian student have a better opportunity in English speaking country? YES.

Logically we all should know this, and as an immigrant in Sweden you are a third class citizen. The battle you face is way higher than someone studying in a native language country.

Please no name calling anymore. We all here to learn

Now let me give u a scenario, I have a friend studying international law here in sweden and it is in English, she is learning Swedish alongside, she is working alongside and with coordination number, if things don’t go according to her plan in sweden, there is Canada, so she has drawn her plan already. But if she had come here first, she would have ruled out sweden and not come to Sweden at all

Sorry mate this scenario is not realistic and I will tell you why.

1) you are expected by law to spend 40hrs or more if you are studying full time in Sweden.
2) you can’t register for Swedish lessons with coordination number.
3) there is no way she will be working and doing all two things and make a good grade. (Obviously possible if you got a high IQ)
4) if she got a work contract then she won’t be needed coordination number as the contract enables her for personal number.

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Thanks

That’s just a course and I am sure she won’t learn Swedish by just taking a course from her university.

You are required to at least finish Swedish as a second language in other to stand a chance for a job in that profession unless you are one of the lucky ones who gets employed with foreign organizations such as WHO.

Now taking a Swedish class with university won’t give you a language certificate but rather a transcript including other courses she has done.
Language certificates are given by kommun (might be wrong)

Learning language requires alot of work, practicing and speaking it with people is very essential to master the language. I assume you are in Living in sweden, what do you think about the social life here ? How many genuine swedish friends have you made other than the one your see in school?

Oh I also have to add she can’t learn Swedish in one year that’s not possible.

I have Swedish friends outside my class, and I told them to speak Swedish anytime we interact, the social life is ok, there are meetups almost every weekend where I stay with other internationals. If I want to go to where I will meet more Swedes I can but that is not my focus right now (clubbing). At where I work I have met Swedes
