If RWS is useless as you claim, why is the military developing it?

It has uses for static position defence, access denial at a border or in rare engagements where friendly forces are pinned down in such a way that they cannot go up to their turrets, access their vehicles OR they maybe they want to use the entire vehicle (not just its guns) as a UGV.

These situations would be in boring static defence situations that regular manning with soldiers would lead to distractions OR conventional battle against an equally matched enemy fielding RWS.

There is no justifiable use case for using RWS in large nos for COIN or against fast, mobile scattered opposing forces. No advantages are conferred.

I Would rather buy a lot of AGLs for the same purposes you want to deploy RWS.

Replace engine, frontal side and wheel and damaged sides. The armor and rear side is still intact which cost alot of money
engine gone, drive train gone, suspension gone, wheels, armour gone and most importantly the Hull most likely damage as well..

Trust me it won't.... It will be more economically feasible to just buy a new one... Or scrap this one for spares

Thank God for life !
Look at what my boys survived today in the N.E theatre today.

While MRAPs are designed to take the hit from mines and IEDs, we can reduce the number of MRAP loses by installing ground penetrating radars and metal detectors on a few of the MRAPs that will lead the convoy.

That MRAP will never be able to protect anyone from mines again, a lot of its engineering has also been distorted by the force of the explosion. It may be repaired and sent to the regions with less IED threats but it will only be a source of headaches. It will be more reasonable to canibalize it for parts and components.

It's designed to absorb such punishment, if not worse.

As someone said, with all parts and skills available, a week should see this bad boy on patrol again!

By design it is ready to be fixed and sent back.
By design - meaning people have modeled the damage scenarios and designed it for re use.. so it is not open to argument. There are many US crash center salvaged second hand vehicles on Nigerian roads. They were designed to survive.

This one is still bullet proof and partially RPG proof. It won't survive a second IED blast due to weak heat affected zones HAZ from the first blast.
You can still use it in the same theatre as middle position vehicle in a convoy

Defence/military Budget for the current year 2022 is N1.20 trillion ($2.919 billion). Checkout the breakdown below.

For 223k personnel across the tri services incl pay that's really low! Thats only 13 k $ per soldier per year ! Lets interrogate the figure with some comparisons. Compare:
Turkey has 350 k with a 22 bn $ budget is 62,850$ per soldier
Brazil with identical numbers has 27 bn $ 77100 $ per.
Pakistan with 650 k has 10.4 bn $ for 16000 $ per.
Mexico 277 k 11 bn $ budget for 39700 $ per.
RSA has 70 k with a 3 bn $ budget 42800 $ per.
Kenya has 25 k with 1.2 bn $ budget giving 48000 $ per.

The Phils' has 143k for 4.4 bn $ at 30700 $ per soldier
Papua new guinea with only 2500 spends 113 mn for 45,200 $ per capita per year.
Uruguay 24 k with 500 mn $ is 20,800 $ per.

The 1st world understandably has a wayyyy higher spending ratio

Italy 165 k with 29 bn $ gives 175,000 $ per soldier per year
France 200k with 55 bn $ is 275000 $ per soldier per year.
Sweden has 24 k for 9 bn $ for 375,000 $.

Looking at the stats Saffas can and should do better but that's not what the Secret Rulers want. PNG surprised shocked me ! They spend like us. Frankly, its a miracle Naij has accomplished so much with so little. I doubt anyone on earth spends so little.

I know how they are designed mate wink this particular vehicle will not be economically feasible to be fixed wink besides big foots are relatively cheap and Nigeria has several of them..... No sane person with half economic or accounting background would consider it wise to repair a vehicle that has been damaged to this extent.... Its not a major loss!! No need spending money on it when you have several to go around

Possibly but best not risk it in an IED active zone again

Post IED blast structural integrity of hull cannot be guaranteed for sure against another blast

Repair , exchange or transfer for low risk police duty

What is not economically feasible?
What was ever economic about a military vehicle?. All military equipment are negative assets in accounting. They are not producing profit.
This vehicle is just a platform to deliver ordnance on a weak enemy but is costs $300k to buy a new one and only $35k will put this back in service - engine, front suspension, drive train.

Ethiopia is the most overhyped army. Almost got crushed by another conventional army until they panickly deployed a flotilla of drones.

Not only Ethiopia, our own Nigerian Army too is over-hyped, 12 year war yet worse insecurity. All armies of outdated generals with old 1940 WW II doctrine of plenty obsolete night blind MBT tanks & APCs will be disgraced by modern smart insurgents or semi-conventional tribal armies that dont have infrastructural army institutions of federal armies. Old armies of old fashioned generals that the modern world has left far behind in stone age.

Ethiopia's wrongly rated high having 3,000 T-55 Tank, BTR-60 APC, her few IFVs BMP-1 acquired 1977 with old low velocity 73mm slow gun are now rusty jalopy. Lack of modern IFV with multirole capabilities of MRAP, ISR long range day/night vision, RCWS 30mm rapid auto gun, vehicle mounted small armed UAV-drone, ATGM etc. Lacking those collapsed Ethiopian Army, but immediately armed UAV with ISR & ATGM like IFV were acquired Ethiopia began to win fast!

____________________________________________

Instead of NA buying 12 sophisticated attack helicopters @ $360 million, they should have first go for 250 modern multirole MRAP-IFV with long range 24/7 ISR, long range radio comms, day/night thermal vision RCWS 30mm auto cannon & 12.7mm coax HMG, equipped with small armed drones as UAV in various variants like kamikaze drone-loiter munitions, armed light machine guns, auto grenades, mini-missiles, mini-bombs, then a final offensive will bring us victory. Put helicopters second as item to buy after modern IFV.

Or else wrong decisions continue giving us wrong equipment bringing us wrong results.

More insights from the N.E. frontlines

MY BOXING DAY INVESTIGATIVE TRIP TO KOSHEBE AND ZABAMARI, BORNO STATE.

On the 27th of November, 2020 Boko Haram insurgents loyal to Abubakar Shekau carried out a most despicable terrorist attack in Koshebe village, Mafa Local Government Area of Borno state, slaughtering 44 rice farmers.

They had gathered them on a fenced piece of land pretending to be preparing to preach to them. One after another they were moved into an abandoned building and slaughtered like ram. They, however, allowed one of them to go to the village centre to announce the beheading of the farmers. The killings were carried out over suspicion that the farmers provided information to soldiers about the movement of Boko Haram terrorists.

The next day (28th November 2020), Nigerian troops recovered the remains of the slain farmers who were then given mass burial in Zabamari, Here Local Government of Borno state, in the presence of Gov Babagana Umara Zulum and others.

13 months after the massacre I visited Koshebe to see what life was like for the farmers there and get them to relive the nasty experience of that bloodbath that shook the nation, especially the manner they were slaughtered like rams and goats. I also visited neighbouring Zabamari where the victims were buried in ten graves.

Given the dangerous and unpredictable nature of Boko Haram, for the trip to Koshebe and Zabamari, the Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, Major General CN Musa and the Commander, 7 Division Garrison, Brigadier Garba Haruna, a veteran of the ECOMOG peace keeping in Liberia, mobilised 8 Gun trucks and dozens of soldiers, some of them armed with rocket propelled grenades, RPGs to give me security cover. Gen Haruna also graciously accompanied me on the trip.

I remain indebted to the army for their help. May God continue to protect you guys as you lay down your lives to keep us safe. May God give us victory over the insurgents.

***Watch my Koshebe story on Journalists Hangout tomorrow from 1.30 pm to 3.30pm.

A Hilux or Buffalo truck stand no chance at all.
Infact they'll be tossed 10s of metres into the air and mangled like a tin of milk.
