Driving With Hands Free Should Be Legal In Nigeria by TPound(m): 9:54am On Jul 05, 2021 |
This morning, I was driving to owode to attend to a client, and I was receiving a call with my hands free when all of a sudden,a road safety official jumped in front of my vehicle and accused me of using my phone while driving. I made him understand I'm using my handsfree and it's legal. He told me it's illegal to use or operate a phone while behind the wheels. I was booked for operating a phone while driving... What upset me most was for the silly excuse being given. In the Oga's words " what if while on the phone, you receive a shocking news and lose control of the car?" Please ooo.. what if the person is sitting right beside you and composes him/"herself" in a shocking manner that destabilizes you? If I'm driving for 5 hours, does that mean I can't receive or make any calls throughout that duration? Does it mean Uber/Bolt drivers are always guilty of this so called offence? Lawyers and law enforcement agents, I need an honest opinion. CC lala Cc mynd44

It's not illegal. The key word is "using" or "operating" a phone. You could argue that you were talking to a passenger or singing along to a music in your car. Anyways, who stops for frsc these days? I don't have time for their foolishness. When they start taking action on danfo, dilapidated trucks, korope and Keke, then I might just reconsider their usefulness. 2 Likes |

Honestly, I have never understood the foolishness of that driving law in Nigeria! What if you are being pursued by criminals? You can't call for help because of FRSC?? 2 Likes |
