Listen to this child. grin

Have I also talked much about Gavi Thompson at Hegelmann?

Or what about Jubril Adedeji of HB koge? If he's still there? He's British Nigerian.

Or what about Nathan Butler-Oyedeji of Arsenal U23?

I guess I am so blind and bigoted to ignore these lots.

Komekn, do you have any idea how busy I am? And how I still take out time to cover as much as can be covered and mention as much as can be mentioned on this thread?

If I mention everybody everytime, then what is your usefulness here? What is the need having other contributors?

I mean I was away for a few months, did it stop you guys from mentioning players?

Why are you whining like a little boy who just lost his favorite toy? Damn! This is pathetic. Grow up, Komekn. wink

komekn:

Double standard and bigotry.

Compare your non stop commentary on Nwakali and accolades and towards Adegbenro , huge Gulf. There's is nothing to discuss.

Indeed compare it any other Nigerian player.

I could open it further and show bigotry, you haven't talked about any of the Nigerian origin players doing well in the EPL and Championship in the same vein as Nwakali.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.....

Ain't no way I just read that first line? Higher than who? You have what??

A guy who once said Osimhen won't break into the U23 teams of Championship clubs suddenly has more expectations than me who foresaw Osimhen's shine right from the grassroots?

Oh my.... say no more... this is the laugh I needed. The rest of your post is garbage as usual. grin

That's absolutely 100% true AT THAT TIME.

And I advised that he should stoop to conquer. Find a smaller team and league , develop and then progress. If he had stayed at Wolfsburg you will not be celebrating him today probably.

You omitted that constructive criticism.

Dembele chose Celtic over Chelsea because he did not think he would develop. Raheem chose QPR over Arsenal because he would not develop and get opportunity, Gnabry chose to drop to Bundesliga because he was not developing in the EPL, Jadon rejected City in favour of B.Dortmund.

The list is literally endless, so what is your point.

The Super Eagles interim coach
Augustine Eguavoen said his team
would play Sudan’s Falcons of Jediane
in their second group game of the
Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the
utmost respect.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
reports that Nigeria would take on
Sudan in their second Group D game of
the AFCON, at the Stade Roumdé Adjia
in Garoua on Saturday.
Eguavoen told journalists during the
pre-match conference on Friday that
the Sudanese were not pushovers and
would be treated as such, adding that
consolidating on the victory against
Egypt, was the ultimate goal.
“I cannot look down on anybody, if you
do that, you will be making a very big
mistake.
“So, the Sudanese team will not be an
exception. We will approach them the
same way we did against Egypt.
“They are a respected side and not a
weak side at all. We will play them with
utmost respect.
“Every game comes with a different
plan. Sudan are not pushovers and
more so, they are on one point and we
have three points.
“We want to consolidate on that, while
they will be pushing harder to have a
chance to qualify,” he said.
On the tactics he would deploy against
the Sudanese, the coach was rather
subtle in his response, saying that he
expected his opponents to raise their
game and his team, to respond
accordingly.
“We have discussed as a background
room staff and the entire team together.
“As we studied Egypt, the truth is that
it is never going to be perfect, but there
will always be loopholes and the ability
to read the game and get a good result
matters,” he said.
The gaffer showered praises on his
team, adding that the difference
between the present Super Eagles and
the former, was about the freedom the
boys now had to express themselves.
“The boys deserve a lot of credit and
praises because when an instruction is
given, they carry it out to the latter and
they don’t need too much reminders.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles
“So that makes it a little bit easier, for
me and the coaching crew.
“We haven’t actually done anything
differently. It is the same personnel, but
it is just about the freedom.

“Feeling free to express themselves and
they see me as their father, brother and
friend.

“Confide in me but don’t take
advantage of me being too gentle and
everyone understands that, including
the players and of course, the
backroom staff,” he said.
On the hype of the Super Eagles being
the favourite to win the AFCON title,
Eguavoen noted that it was too early to
draw such conclusions.
E be like this Eguavoen's emphasis on respect na code for: we go run you ragged

How can a player who had done nothing for 7 season in Europe is an anonymous big mouse with not even indicative stats to show promise. In the moi moi Segunda Division.

Will bench tried and proven EPL players like Iwobi and Onyeka. Nigeria we hail thee.

He is now getting training from the NFF Coaches to help him Wow !!!

Odegbami: AFCON 2021 – The Shame And The Pride!

The Shame

Can you believe that some National Federation Presidents in Africa were part of a plot behind the scenes to have the African Cup of Nations Championship, AFCON, cancelled for no reason at all beyond obeying their ‘master’s’ bidding?

The first week of AFCON 2021 must have been a big disappointment for all those that wanted to see Africa’s most prestigious football championship either cancelled or postponed. Citing very untenable reasons that could not stand any integrity test, they wanted to diminish the importance of Africa in the global scene, even in a game that continues to fight back at bigotry, discrimination and racism in the world.

Even though attempting to diminish the importance of the African championship is not new (it has been happening from one championship to the other in various forms through the past decades), what is different this time around is the role of the FIFA President and his collaborators in the Confederation of African Football, CAF, in the saga.

Many observers have been worried about how the continent’s national football presidents have become powerful tools of the FIFA president, in global football politics, since he used their large number and almost robotic followership to become President. Since then, they had mortgaged their independence on the Altar of Baal. For 6 months FIFA actually took over the administration of football in Africa when its General Secretary moved office to Cairo and took over the CAF secretariat.

In the Cameroon’s, it was a great shock and shame to learn of the activities of some African national federation presidents playing the clandestine role of trying to convince many of their colleagues in CAF, without any justifiable reason, to support their ‘master’s’ call for a cancellation, or postponement, of their most important championship, forgetting that Europe successfully hosted their own championship even at a worse time that Covid-19 was ravaging the region. The world did not end. All that was required was stricter covid protocols. Why should Africa’s be treated differently now?

The names of all the presidents that backed that anti-African move, should be released and made public. Every one of them should be made to face the music and shame of their actions in their different countries. They do not deserve to remain as Presidents of their federations for fueling the embers of ‘neo-colonialism’ in African football. What a shame!

The Pride

The campaigners for cancellation may have succeeded but for the divinely inspired emergence of a powerful and ‘unpolluted’ figure like Eto’o Samuel Fils as President of Cameroon’s national football federation. He was not going to have any of such shenanigans during his first assignment as President and host of the championship. He got the support (surprisingly) of the President of CAF, Patrice Motsepe, who was considered a Giovani-lacky before then because of the FIFA President’s ‘hand’ that was all over his election to the CAF Presidency.

The South African, with Samuel Eto’o by his side, shunned Giovanni’s unpalatable ‘offering’. They were both a pride to Africa.

That was the reason for the relative ‘cold treatment’ meted to Giovanni Infantino during the opening ceremony of AFCON 2021. Contrary to the usual practice of sitting him next to the President of the country, he was made some distance away from Mr. Paul Biya, in the State Box. He was also reportedly booed by spectators when his name was announced as one of the international VIPs present.

It was a thing of immense pride to watch the spectacle of the opening ceremony, the dance and drama, the culture and the colours.

The best part has been the displays on the field of play since the championship started with African flair, spectacle, power and athleticism in full display.

AFCON 2021, despite the cloud of Covid-19 hanging menacingly over it, has lived up to expectations in every way, putting up the best of African football in physically bruising matches, relatively poor refeeeing that adds spectacular drama to many matches, and the very close encounters and scores of matches between the teams.

So far, two countries have stood out for me in the championship – the host country, Cameroon, and Nigeria’s Super Eagles. After the first round of matches those two teams have stood out as most likely to get to the finish line.

I watched the Super Eagles render the very mature and talented Pharaohs of Egypt completely harmless in 90 minutes. It crossed my mind that I could be watching the making of the eventual Champions. I had not seen such dominance of a game by a team that was very low on possession of the ball, but very high on power, speed, physicality, confidence, spirit, energy, and attempts at goal.

In 90 minutes, and more, of that game, there was not a single moment of anxiety or grave danger of the Eagles conceding a goal. The defensive strategy adopted was so effective that one of the best players in European football, Mohamed Salah, was rendered completely impotent. The Nigerian team played very confidently, like champions would

So far, the Eagles may have not played the best brand of football, but with the range of talent in the team now, and Augustine Eguavoen’s ability to deploy them the way he did in the first match, it is not difficult to assume that at the ‘tape’, Nigeria and Cameroon are likely to be the two teams still standing to battle it out in a photo-finish.

That is my prediction

Football gives you little time.

That's why we have super subs.

Awoniyi came on and within 1 minute he had set the standard and tone for the game. You don't need 90 minutes , just 15 minutes and you can be the game changer.

He had time but did absolutely nothing with it.
Rest abeg. Not every player will break the mold in 15 minutes. Osimhen that is your favorite now didn't do well in more than 15 minutes he played at the last Afcon. In fact he was given a run of games before he repaid our faith in him
This your here and now can only be used by a wise man as a guide but a foolish man will use it in a rigid way applying it across board to all situation and then use it to kill off the potential of some players who only need just some bit of time to get going.

I think forgiveness once said that the reason why Pinnick quickly got Peseiro is to avoid a situation whereby Eguavoen performs well at the AFCON and the conversation becomes that he should sit in the saddle. But see now even with the appointment of Peseiro, Eguavoen's performance against Egypt has already got people talking.
Me from the day I watched that Eguavoen clip, I became assured that it is best we are coached by our own people. I've always been an advocate of foreign coaches. But Eguavoen was so much at ease talking about Nigerian football history, mentioning names before his own time. Most foreign coaches would not do that.

My expectations are higher than yours .

You may seek to enthrone mediocrity I do not.

When a striker comes on as a substitute he seeks to make an impression and bring quality that's why winning teams have strength in depth. He is supposed to make a difference. In the back of his mind he should be attempting to get the number one slot.

But Sadiq was shockingly languid and unimpressive.

Eguavon himself said Sadiq was DISSAPOINTING along side Nwakali and he was being diplomatic even creating excuses for them. Very few managers will shame their players in public but what he said was enough to know they are not SE quality.

But you have chosen to imagine something else.
Ohh God! Why do you lie so shamelessly. Eguavoen never said Sadiq was disappointing. I challenge you to show me where he said that. This is what Eguavoen said about Sadiq

Asked if he was bothered that Sadaq didn't play on the same level as the player he replaced, Eguaoven told reporters at the post-match press conference : "Umar I think this is the first time playing in a very big stage and we have to talk to him.

"He gave me some few excuses after the game but it's something psychological so we have to talk to him and address it in future games."

You can see Eguavoen said Sadiq didn't play at Awoniyi's level. And he tried to even excuse the guy.

And as for Nwakali, there's no where in the press where Eguavoen spoke about his game in either positive or negative terms. Why are doing this? Omo. Is this how to objectively analyze football? By putting out barefaced, cheap lies?

Actually his first game was very poor, inclusion was based not on club performance but sentiment.

He was not anywhere near as good as Ighalo at the time. And that was just over two year's ago , he had a lot to learn and very lightweight.

Osimhen yes, Ighalo no. He's had his time. It gets to the point where you have to rest it or be rested as a player for the NT. Ighalo has gotten to that point. He's not better than any of our present forwards including Sadiq.
Rohr invited him out of retirement for the Cape Verde match and he was atrocious. I did not see you going on at him for his awful display that as you have been carrying on about Sadiq.

If Ighalo was playing in Seria A he would be scoring goals if he was in the moi moi Segunda he would be the top goal scorer.

To compare Sadiq with Ighalo is abuse and lack of respect.

Where did I say that you condemned Awoniyi.?

Let me quote you verbatim.

He will cry for those who are absent and condemn those who are present. Real duplicity
