Before Nwakali came in. Our midfield playing pattern was chaotic. Lots of stray passes and failed link-up play. With Nwakali on, his choices dictated what we were doing. Sideways passes led to us attacking spaces. Backward pass, led to keeping possession and also switching direction through the back. Our play became tidier.

Short passes.
This is key in dictation. There are times you just need to keep the ball due to a lack of gaps upfront. What this also does is to help pull out opposing players from compact zones.

So, I wonder how you can ask if Nwakali dictated play. He did.

First of all, when Eguavoen talked about the long balls, he strictly talked about working against the press. That is when the opposing teams have many players attacking you in your own half.

With that, you have gaps for a player with long-range passing ability to spot the gaps and pick offensive players.

In this game, we had the Sudanese team come with a compact/counter system. With that, we did not have gaps to exploit. When Nwakali came in, he did not go on a long ball spree. It does not work like that.

However, there was a point in the game he gave a brilliant switch of play with showed his ability to give long balls. I think he gave that switch to Sanusi. It was sharp and tidy.
