We have been crying for years that since Mikel left, the team lacked a midfield conductor. Kelechi Nwakali came in yesterday and nailed a 92% passing accuracy. Is that not what is needed? Yet people want to crucify the boy. We had a chaotic midfield yesterday. He came in and did his bit. Yet people want to rain fire. Haba. 6 Likes 1 Share |

Joezinho: Why do I need to downplay Aribo? There is no need for that. He was brilliant. Having a chaotic midfield does not mean not playing well. It is about cutting risk of being exposed to counters because we play an exposed system. It is about style of play. It is not about one being better than the other. Nwakali has a midfield dictating style of play. Aribo is more adventurous. It has to do with what the coach wants at a particular time. |

And in 25mins. Only Aribo had a better passing accuracy and he lasted 65mins. Aribo nailed 94% passing accuracy. Still with respect to passing, Nwakali only edged in passing in/into opposition half and also in ball recycling, both in lesser time. Ndidi was the main culprit in terms of possession lost in the middle when he had Aribo with him. Aribo lost the ball less but Ndidi more. But when Nwakali arrived on the scene, Ndidi hardly lost the ball. He got himself back. Nwakali brought the calm Ndidi rode on to finish the game. TheGoodJoe: 4 Likes 1 Share |

TheSuperNerd: Oga , stand your ground and make your arguments without throwing other people under the bus. I never compared them but due to the fact they both play in the midfield and this midfield has continued to struggle it requires thorough assessment , and possibly solutions. The questions should be ; Who plays there ? What do they bring and why is the midfield unable to hold possession and connect with attack. When we dissect thess issues bedevilling the team names of players come up. I dont have anything against Aribo , all I ask of him is to bring stability to the team since its his responsibility....Aribo's duty is not to score but to instill a level of creativity and cohesion in the opponents area. Sadly , Aribo struggled to bring order in the first 25 minutes and it was during this time the midfield was in tatters. Yes , we scored an early goal which sort of concealed our apparent faults and lack of team play in the midfield. |

TheGoodJoe: Then you shouldn't have brought whoscored.com stats just to make onyeka seem like the worse passer of the ball when in reality Nwakali can't do it better than other midfielders. How many decisive or key passes did he make yesterday? |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheSuperNerd(m): 2:08pm On Jan 16, 2022 |
Focus on Aribo's strengths rather than his weakness. He is no MF conductor but a hardworking and highly technical box-to-box midfielder who especially loves to attack the box. So don't expect him to conduct plays. His style is different and he is bringing it to the table effectively. Nwakali on the other hand is a MF conductor. So dictation/conduction will come easily to him. Finito. IDENNAA: 5 Likes 1 Share |

TheGoodJoe:Oh my bad. There's virtually no stats about this kid. What exactly has he done to warrant a call up? There's next to nothing on Nwakali except fantasies .. He is a flash in the pan player and importantly, his overall workrate is not at the level of any of the midfielders we currently have... |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 2:12pm On Jan 16, 2022 |
Joezinho: That stat you showed was Chidebere Nwakali, not Kelechi Nwakali. Secondly, I am not trying to downplay Frank Onyeka. No one is attacking your faves, so chill pill. Players have strengths in their attributes. Midfield conducting and dictating is likely not Frank Onyeka's game. So do not use no coach will play this ahead of this. I have said repeatedly that football is not choosing game. There are things Aribo brings that Nwakali can not bring. There are things Ndidi can bring, that Nwakali can't bring. Same with Onyeka etc. There are things Nwakali brings that they all can't bring. That is football. As Okocha put it when talking about Iheanacho. "We all have our strengths and weaknesses." 1 Like |

Joezinho: During Maigari's time, he had the Super Eagles camp together with all the junior teams. He somehow felt a synergy will come out of this. It somehow did. That was why Siasia could easily call up Osimhen into the Olympics team and Keshi could call Nacho for the CHAN team. What I am saying is, I do not know how Eguavoen was in the mix at this time but he has a sincere belief in the ability of Nwakali. It is something I liked in Pellegrini, he did not look at history but the talent he saw in the person. That was why a Riquelme that flopped in Barcelona became an Icon under him. A Forlan that flopped in Manchester United became the best striker in the world. That is why a Guiseppe Rossi that could not break into the Manchester United team became a brilliant revelation in the La Liga. Same thing played out with Iheanacho. While people expected Pellegrini to spend big to bring in a striker, he put faith in an untested academy player (Iheanacho). And he did not fail. Eguavoen is not looking at history. He is looking at the quality he sees in a player as a coach, and possibly a player he has watched over time. On another note, when I watched Nwakali yesterday, I saw a bright star on display. He has a true gift with the ball. His first control was just sharp and followed it throughout the game. 2 Likes 1 Share |

TheSuperNerd: I had this idea that Eguavoen wants to explore the offensive side of Ndidi. That is like a Yaya Toure kind of player. What I feel is that Eguavoen has the idea that if Ndidi can perform with the ball as he does off-the-ball, we would have a footballing monster in our hands. When Nwakali came in, I must attest, Ndidi looked fierce and dangerous. Like the development. Let us see how the team progressed. 1 Like |

Joe Aribo vs Sudan: Impressive showing. Aribo in 65mins: 94% passing accuracy (43 accurate passes) 29 passes in own half. 14 passes in/into opposition half. 1/2 accurate long balls (50%) 1 shot on target 1 shot off target 100% dribbling success (2/2) 8/12 ground duels won 1/1 aerial duels won 4 tackles 2 interceptions 1 foul committed Was fouled twice. 9 recoveries. Lost possession 7 times. Also, Had a key pass to Awoniyi that set up a very good cross pass that was not utilised in the end. The stats didn't pick that up as a Keypass but I do. Cc Idennaa. TheGoodJoe: And what exactly are the things Nwakali brings to the team? Passing accuracy of which half are back passes? We understand why Nwakali is in the team.. All na marketing... Personally, I'm not against using the NT to advance the careers of talented players, but it needs to be transparent and it needs to be available to any special talent, not simply those with connected agents... It should not be at the expense of more qualified players, hence it should be limited to friendlies and not tournament squads.. |

He is not hyping. He is simply drawing a similarity based on how both Midfielders operate. Mikel is a legend and cannot be compared to little Nwakali but they do have similar playing styles. Both are bonafide MF conductors. That is the point he makes. safarigirl: 2 Likes 1 Share |
