I loved it then because a totally different person often won the European one with emphasis on their performance on the continent.

I remember Osei Kuffour of Ghana/Bayern winning too. The BDO would just pick a very technical player (at times a defensive midfielder)not necessarily a flashy attacker like FIFA almost always picked.

Fifa best has always been the award to beat. Balon d'or for me is more of politics than the game. Imagine awards voted by journalists to award voted by the real sportsmen. They are not equal jàre. The way a coach will analyse football is quite different from how laymen would.
