dupyshoo: We were discussing the features of an SIPP, pros and cons. My opinion is that the NHS public pension and defined benefits schemes are the best one can get in the UK, and if I had a public sector pension, together with the proportional state pension, I wouldn't bother with a private pension. I would prefer to factor in equity release or downsizing from a home in old age if one needed income in old age beyond the pension income available to one + one's savings. SIPPs and other private pensions work best for the self-employed/those who have additional self-employed income to play with/dispose of. In the general order of things, i.e. where one only has the number of children one can afford and one has them early enough in life so you're not training children in your 60s or when you are at the end of your working life, and one falls within the general UK life expectancy range, is not chasing fresh young 20-something year old girls or boys or buying midlife crisis sports cars, etc., then the greatest expense one will have in old age would likely be funding their eldercare, which, despite Boris' generous promise to Tory voters, will most likely ultimately end up down the line in requiring the sale of their homes for the average person. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

CheesyTee:I understand better now after reading @LagosismyHome's comment. You need a letter from your school stating that English is the medium of instruction. It will be issued by your school's registrar and addressed to NARIC. However, your school will not send it to NARIC themselves, they will send it to you then you will scan it and upload to NARIC. I think you are better of with IELTS, just register for the next available one if what you want to use it for is time-bound. I did IELTS and NARIC but I used the IELTS because before NARIC came out owing to my school's delay in issuing the said letter, I had already applied with IELTS and my visa was even out seff. 3 Likes 1 Share |

CheesyTee: For me, I uploaded my B.sc & one MSc. Didn’t upload the second one due to long process of getting proof of English from the school. And NARIC responded within 4 working days which was surprising because this was December period and by the way, it was standard. |

I'm back with my money saving or money making avenues. Good one on all the SIPP talk. Like someone said you can maximise your workplace pension by increasing the minimum contribution since most employers match the increase with a higher percentage. I went from contributing 3% percent for 2% employer's contribution (on auto enrolment) to contributing 6% for employer's 12%. For anyone looking to save/make some cash whilst spending, utilising TopCashback when you shop online is the way to go. You essentially get cashback on items purchased from legit UK retailers . If you go through TopCashback website to retailers website , you will earn cashback that goes as high as 20% or even more. You also get £10 on sign up using the link below https://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/tinux Honestly though, in this 2022,keep your ears to the ground... We need to be making money and/ saving money so embrace every avenue that legally allows it . You can call me your Nairaland moneysaving expert 4 Likes 5 Shares |

Myati: Any recommendations for a LISA provider? I'm in the market for one. |
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by Myati: 8:03pm On Jan 23, 2022 |
mizGene: I used Skipton building society back then but I think you might be better off with moneybox just because you can do more with moneybox. https://www.moneyboxapp.com/isa/lifetime/cash/ By the way, you can open your Lisa account with as little as £1 just to get it rolling and fund the account when you have your lump sum. This is especially beneficial to those lookin to use a LISA account towards their first home. You need to have opened the Lisa account for a year before you can withdraw the funds. Modified.. You need to fund it with £4000 before April if you want to get the max government bonus (£1k)this financial year. 5 Likes 4 Shares |

Myati:Thanks. Someone shared moneybox earlier, for some reason it didn't recognise I am in the UK...kept saying not available in your country try...so I cdnt download it. Still same result now. Anyone have a clue what the issue is? This also happened when I needed to download the tesco app.... And no, I am not using a VPN and Google can access my location |

mizGene: You need to go change your location/locale with the Playstore settings if you're Android. For some reason it can be stuck in another country and not automatically switch although Google can tell you're physically in the UK 2 Likes 2 Shares |
