There is no need for us to bother. We need a reliable goal keeper. We have been done in two afcons now due to these baby keepers we are parading 1 Like |

So much for not changing a "Winning team" My patriotism and support for this team is undeniable and it is even clear in my message before this game but I did warn us that sticking to the same tactical approach will not be good for us if we must progress in this tournament especially seeing that our tactical approach denies us better Midfield control and only offers us a threat via The Simon route via the CBs' long balls. I was concerned about our predictability. A midfield 3 of tactically balanced players would have offered us something different and widened our tactical threat in offensive transitions taking the burden off the Simon route. It is not rocket science... I did say, When it is technically and tactically helpful, you can indeed change a winning team. This 442(sometimes called 4231) approach when applied right with a Gen gen press is workable against certain teams but today, even our pressing game dropped and is a far cry from the intensity we saw in the Egypt game. Added to the fact that this approach of ours doesn't give us the kind of Midfield control we need especially in terms of chances creation and play switches. I cried out that we need to find a way to have all our weapons on the pitch together to offer us better tactical balance but nooooooo.... Some weren't seeing the big picture. They would rather have this player or that player because he has done well in the EPL or whatever league even when he doesn't bring what we need to be better. Well, I wrote about learning from Algeria's mistakes. Their decision to stick to the same thing that was clearly not working or that could be found out with time. You don't change a winning team, they said. If it ain't broken, don't fix it, they said. But what most of you never realised is that even when we were winning, we still showed marked signs of weakness in our Middle game dynamics and in our predictable approach using the CBs' long balls to Simon (especially) which was always gonna be neutralised by a tacticallly good team. I hope this teaches a lesson. Judge football with the big picture in mind and not with mere sense of likes or dislikes for players. See you all in March. 4 Likes 2 Shares
