Hello all. I'm a 25year old unemployed graduate. I finished my NYSC last year and i was able to save less than 50k. After spending 6months without any forthcoming job, I've used about 20k out of the money and all I'm left with in this life is 30k. I was introduced to a solar installation class during Nysc and i decided to give it a try.

The registration is about 21k plus transport to the venue will cost me about 30k for the 6months. I was told there would be a certificate after the training, but I'm still a bit skeptical about the course because i don't know how lucrative the skill is, because i once read a nairaland post on how a guy bought his panels and fixed it himself after going through the manuals.

So my question now is, should i invest my life savings on this course? Is it lucrative? Will the certificate matter at all? Can i build a career from it?

If I were you, I won't invest my last money to learn something. Why not begin with the talent you already have?

Check out the following link to see many ways to make money with your talent. The post is generally about how to start a business without capital. For details, see how to start a business without money (no capital, zero capital)

My guy, don't waste your money or time. Go online and do contract work. Find a niche. You can study what you need without paying anything. If anything, start a little business.

Only solar installation is not enough unless you will get practical experience on how to also fix inverters which requires more than 6months.

Have you thought of learning programming?

If you can learn solar installation with 30k, then go for it. The money is too small to call your life savings.

Look for a trustworthy person who is in the frontlines of programming with a multinational. Learn as it your life depends on it.

You will oneday look for me and thank me.

Note- Dont have at the back of your mind you learning to make money. Develop a flare for it and an imagination of it running in your mind and brains. From there, You will individually find yourself with no one telling and opportunities will come for you

Learn from someone who is already into it. Most of them will carry you along for free and also they might give you daily stipends. You won't regret learning it if you're the type that puts his mind and attention into learning something.

Note: It takes more than 6 months to catch up, but start now.

Meh, this country is hard for those of us that are upcoming. No clear path or way forward. I feel you brother.

Like some people already stated, don't use your last card to pay to learn solar panel. Just look for a good solar panel company or a company that does handwork related to anything you want to learn, pitch yourself and tell them you'd like to intern with them for a year (even if you want to stay 6 months), this is becauS if you say 6 motnsh, they might not want to take you in as they won't see you as a good investment and someone worth teaching.

As you probably know, they won't wanna pay you, but you should know why you're there. You can use the little money you have for upkeep during the said period. Learn as much as you can, stay humble and build good relationships. Everyone has a different path in life, so don't be discouraged or compare yourself to others out there. Hopefully, things work out fine for you. Also, always give yourself a said time to learn stuffs so you can guage how well you're doing, and be diligent in whatever task you find yourself in any company that accepts you.

Those telling you to hustle harder are very stupidddd. Just do your thing.

Stay strong brother.

Bro ur story is touching if I must be honest to you, nevertheless man must survive. Investing ur 30k cos of only the certificate doesn't make sense at all, learn from the road side combine it with the YouTube, and later you will arrange a certificate for urself bro. Save ur 30k in the bank for now.

Broh if you want to venture into solar energy installation, please take note...

Solar energy installation requires some level of knowledge and technicalities, because any silly mistake you make would turn your potential profit into a huge loss.

Solar energy installation no be by certificate o, if you don't know it, you don't know it.

You must have basic knowledge of electricity.

What you'll learn online is different from what you'll encounter in the field.

The only venue for solar energy installation is the place of installation, anybody telling you to come to class for you to learn it is just deceiving you

Don't just learn solar energy installation, also learn solar light installation(very easy to learn, it's just the normal street light ), cctv installation and car tracking system installation.

find someone in your place that is into solar installation, reason with the person, tell him the situation you're in. just be humble, even if it requires doing boy boy...fine.
Stress dey am, but the gain BIG pass the stress.

It is lucrative. But I would advise you to learn by working for somebody else. You'll make contacts and gain valuable experience - things you won't get in a course, and are far more valuable than a certificate. I know several "small boys" who installed for me (while working for a large company in 2015), but now have their own shops in 2021. I patronize one of them because we have history, but they are big boys now in solar installation.

The guy is a graduate, he should be able to follow instructions, youtube, manual etc.

can as well work cheaply as an apprentice under someone for a short period of time.

Learn a skill, even a technical one because it would land you a great job someday. A skill would help you really in the long run. If it's programming, also exlpore that avenue to up your skill. All these would increase your chances of employment by even a high profile company. Plus, the certificate you'd be getting, it'll go a long way...
This is where learning a skill makes sense.
Not only might you land a job, but before that you're garnering experience and earning income from that skill you were trained on.

But if you're going to start out as being an entrepreneur, you multiply that you have with a profitable business idea.. (you can start with apps wink ) ... or just look for someone who could invest in your business and fund you with you have. Just an alternative and extra piece of advice
