"You know I use to kick against anti richer wives ideology. I never subscribed to the belief that women disrespect and dislove their husbands when richer than them. To me, it was a blatant fallacy. I vowed to support my wife to attain whatever height she wants to attain in her career and finances. That vow I vehemently kept. I supported Emerald and she hit it big but look at me today, I no longer have regard in my own home and marriage. I'm now a piece of trash to her, why? Because she's a multi millionaire while me, her husband, is just a mere thousandnaire", he said and chuckled at the last word.

"She comes back very late at night, goes out late at night, talks to me anyhow, disregards my presence and person, takes decisions on the home without involving or even consulting me, why? Because she foots the bills, most of it, which is not my fault anyway, circumstance has made it so. You know, I have this feeling, this intuition, instinctive sensation that she's cheating on me"

"I feel your pain bro. Emerald, I still don't understand what has come over her. She was never like this. Is she possessed or something?"

Now I know why that man burnt down his wife's supermarket. Now I know why that man sent his richer wife parking. Now I know why some men go to the extreme to ensure their wives aren't richer than them. Now I know better, being a victim has made me to"

"This is serious. It isn't funny. You're becoming something else Leonard. Don't let her turn you into what you're not. it's scary"

"My advice to you my friend, don't ever let Mirabel, your wife to be richer than you. Oppose it, fight against it. CHAPTER TWENTY ONE



"What!!!" Ann exclaimed.

"Girl, what did you just spill?" Lisa asked shocked.

"Are you saying you slept with another guy? You cheated?"

Angela nodded soberly.

"That's preposterous. Unbelievable. Shitty," Ann said. "How? Why?"

"It hurts. Thinking about that act, that abomination, torments me. It feels like I'm about to be disintegrated," Angela said, bowed her head and placed her hands on it.

"I can't believe I did that. I can't believe I cheated on Richard. I feel terrible," she said.

"But how and when?" Lisa asked. Angela sobbed in response. Ann moved and sat beside her, consoling her.

"It's okay if you don't want to talk about it," she said.

"It wasn't intentional. I wasn't myself. I was drunk. I did it unconsciously," Angela said crying.

"It's okay." Ann patted her. The room was quiet and tense.

"It was last week. You girls weren't around. You, Ann, went home while you, Lisa, went to see your elder sister who put to birth. I was lonely and bored, Richard was busy, so I decided to hang out alone. I went to a club where I met this guy, Jasper by name, who kept me company. We drank, chatted and munched. I didn't dance with him because I deemed that improper. I took lots of alcohol and got severely drunk, that was all I could remember. The next morning, I found myself naked with him on the bed, my bed, in this house. I was shocked and mad at that. I confronted him, he told me I was the one that persuaded him to have sex with me. He told me, in my drunken state, I told him to take me home, brought him here and lured him into sleeping with me," Angela narrated tearily.

"What nonsense, that Jasper guy took advantage of you," Lisa uttered with disgust.

"I don't think so. If he did that, the act would have taken place in his house or an hotel room but no, it took place in this house, my room, my bed. I brought him here, I asked him to bring me here, which means, in my drunken state, my unconscious state, I did shits. I'm a bloody motherfvcking seductress and a cheat," Angela replied and bursted more into tears, her friends consoling her.

"I don't think I can forgive myself. I can't do this anymore. I can't keep it to to myself. I should tell Richard..."

"Sweetie, I don't think that's a good idea," Ann cut her off.

"Me too. That will only complicate things the more," Lisa commented.

"I know, but I can't keep it to myself anymore. I've been trying to for days now, but the more I try sealing it up, the more I feel choked. I feel torn apart, the guilt in me is much, it's killing me. I need to let go of it by letting Richard know about it. It's a risk, that I know, but I feel it's the right thing to do."

Richard laughed with vigour, laughter that reeked of pain, anger and sadness. This was his reaction after Angela narrated her cheatcapades to him. Suddenly, he became quiet. Hurt, disgust and sadness in his eyes.

"Richard, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. It was unintentional. Please I'm sorry, forgive me..."

"Shut the fvck up. I say shut those things you call mouth up," he ordered loudly.

"Please, I'm sorry. I love you Richard. Please."

"You love me?"

"Yes I do. You know I do."

"You love me?" She nodded in reply, tears running down her cheeks.

"That's fallacy. If you do, you wouldn't have cheated," he said with pain.

"Please Richard, it wasn't intentional. I was drunk."

"You were drunk." She nodded.

"And you expect me to believe that."

"Please, it's the truth."

"Tell me, are you saying you sleep with random men when you're drunk. Tell me, how many men have you done that with? How many times have you cheated on me?"

"I swear, that was the only time such occurred. I've never cheated on you except that."

"Really?"

She nodded and replied, "Yes."

"I loved you. I've been faithful to you. I've stuck to you through tough times even when your father offered me a whooping hundred million naira to leave you. I've ensured and tried being the ideal man for you. Now, I'm regreting why, I'm beginning to feel all those were nothing but a total waste of time and energy. I should've left with the hundred million, at least, this shit wouldn't have occurred," he said, tears on his face. Angela sobbed the more. The hurt was much.

"For all my love, loyalty, commitment and faithfulness for you, I get this."

"Yes, we don't have sex but I ensured I satisfy you intimately. I made sure you were never deprived of sexual pleasures and orgasms despite your high libido. If you wanted sex, you should have demanded from me, and if I can't give you and you so desire it, it would have been better you broke up with me instead of cheating. We had an agreement to leave the relationship if we are fed up with it. Why didn't you do that? Why go behind my back to bloody cheat on me?" he said raising his voice at the last statement.

"Baby, I'm sorry," she said, her hands on her mouth.

"Tell me, were you sex starved?" he asked to which she tilted her head in the negative.

"Then why?"

"Please, I'm sorry. What I did was wrong, an abomination, that I know. I couldn't keep it to myself. I couldn't bear it. It was eating me up. That's why I had to tell you. Forgive me, that's all I ask for, that's what will make me be at peace, please," she said tearingly, cupping his cheeks and placing her forehead against his.

"I'm hurt."

"I know."

"But I'm more disgusted," he said disengaging from her.

"I had high value and respect for you. I saw you as a lady of class, morals, dignity and honour. You had my respect, adoration, admiration and honour to the max but that isn't the case anymore. Right now, whatever respect and honour I had for you has diminished, diminished to the barest minimum. I don't regret dating you, I feel ashamed dating you. You disgust me."

"Please heart, it hasn't gotten to that. Please, don't let it to, I beg of you. I'm sorry."

"Know this, telling me about it doesn't change anything."

"Yes, it does. It means I'm remorseful, so remorseful. It showed I'm sorry for what I did, besides, it wasn't intentional. It was done in an unconscious state."

"Just look at her trying to justify herself."

"I'm not..."

"The bottom line is, you cheated, that's all that matters," he said. He moved and sat on a couch, his hands on his bowed head. It was too much, too much to bear. Angela continued pleading in tears.

"Tell me, if you're in my shoes, would you forgive me?"

"Yes I would."

"You think it's that easy?"

"Yes I would, not with the circumstances surrounding it, besides, you're remorseful and sorry for it."

"I'm trying to but I can't. It's tormenting. The image, the visualisation, the imaginations, the consciousness, the knowledge, I can't get them off my mind. It intense, it's torturing. I can't bear it."

"Please heart, I'm sorry, forgive me. Please. This won't happen again, this mistake won't repeat itself, I swear. Give me, our relationship another chance. I'm sorry, I'm so so so so sorry. I love you Richard, I truly do. Please forgive me," she begged kneeling down, her hands on his cheeks.

"My head is over filled, it isn't functioning. I can't think, I need space. We need a break."

"Are you breaking up with me?" She asked startled.

"I said we need a break. I need time to think, with that, I will be able to decide if we can continue with this relationship or not."

"Please Richard. Don't do this. Please, I'm sorry. Why can't you forgive me?"

"Because you cheated."

"But I'm sorry. I thought you said you love me."

"That was when you weren't a cheat. Look Angela, we need a break and that's it," he said, got up and walked out of the house, Angela slumped on the couch in tears.
