This is obviously a scam. It is not the duty of any local government official to arrest passengers plying one-way. If these people are genuine your car would be at the Ikeja or Oshodi lastma office. As regards the road sign, the onus is on them to prove that it's one-way. Also note that there is no fine for plying one-way, the punishment is impounding of the vehicle. Ask that the matter be charged to the mobile court and you would see how fast the story would change

After the story changes, report them to police for theft and kidnapping, and ensure you sue them for distress and emotional discomfort too. This might sound absurd to some but that is the way to change things.

After payment, he can still sue for enforcement of his fundamental rights and claim damages

The usual extortion by the numerous unknown Lagos state traffic agents. They are touts/semi illiterates who think they know it all and are not there to help or guide u bt take undue advantage of u after international setting u up for their well prepared traffic offense traps.

Like hyenas they watch, waiting and lay ambush. No signage or atom of responsibility towards road users or ensure they are guided or not misled. Rather the goal is to actually mislead u and blatantly extort u.

This is like a criminal extortion syndicate and nothing less.

The mega city!

This is a pure government instituted daylight robbery.

I have paid 25k on two occasions to LASTMA.

Both for one way offences that were not obvious.

Both inside VI..

My friend paid 150k at University road in Yaba (He actually landed in mobile court).

I paid N50k to task force from lastma oshodi. One way offence at 6,.20am off adejumo tennis club road please uli entered the street legally... Extortion everywhere. The one way offence was primarily targeted to those on the high way, not for streets in residential areas. Massive extortion is now the name of the game

I paid 17000 at Mowe, those ones are jaguda, a state where there seems to be no functional government bad roads and pot holes everywhere, to who do you report to.

I Know that spot, around Nigerian breweries area linking to National Theater. I once took that route from Coastain, coming from work to avoid the traffic on Alaka. That was where Google routed me though. When I got to this same spot you are talking about, these guys ( in blue branded Lagos logo polo shirts ) came out from no where an stopped myself and one other car by myside. One group was with me while the other group was with the other car. I knew immediately that it was them, but I decided to stay calm and see what rubbish stunt they would pull. One of them then told me to wind down , I winded down just a little bit and the clout then asked for my particulars. The other guy they stopped was already becoming agitated. When I asked what agency they were, he hesitated but finally mentioned that they were council peeps. It was at this instance that my bubble bursted. I just hissed and zoomed off. One of them that had been standing in front of my car knew well enough to give way. The other car to too, was had already been venting too, also zoomed off. The thing is that, number one, never ever allow them into your car , ( be it police, lastma, road safety or vio), unless you have no other choice. Number two, know your rights , else these fellows would make a solid meal out of you. This is Lagos , nobody is ever wrong, but everyone is always right. So sorry for your experience. Take it as a lesson and guard against it, it happened to me, which is why I don wise up when it comes to these guys on the road.

Hmm

I heard similar experience at oyingbo round about. They are touts from the local government working in conjunction with the police. They flag me down and drove me to one place they called a local government. Apparently I was scared cause of the guys and since I didn't have anyone aswell and was sick I heard to beg and they reduce my fine to about 15k. It's just the situation we have found ourselves in this country especially Lagos. I will advice if you have any one in uniform to help u else plead with them to reduce the fine and just pay to retrieve you car. God will help us one day

Similar thing almost happened to me last year, I was not even ready to know who they were, I just reversed instantly and zoomed off.

And how is this justice? When the punishment is not commensurate with the crime, its not justice but an abuse of power! That Lagos is just a lawless jungle! I dont bother driving these days when visiting. Tueh!

It's unfortunate what these hoodlums are subjecting the people to. I almost had a similar occurrence. In my own case, my car was towed. I made enquires and when I got to their office, somewhere in Mushin. I showed the idiots my ID card and I threatened them. They started begging me. Long story short, my connect and ID saved me.
Meanwhile, I saw some other people begging them with money and the idiots were even doing yanga.
Poster, if you're here, demand to see their chairman and ask them to take it to court or you will. Don't beg them. Instead, threaten them.
All of una wey want Tinubu to enter, brace up for more of this abnormalities... He no go even enter ni sef
