1. Why do we apologize before saying anything in Nigeria? Eg “please don't be angry, where is First Bank located here?” “Abeg, no vex, where I go fit piss here?”

2. Why do we say ‘no problem’ or ‘no wahala’ when told to do sth after a conversation?

Since when did "Abeg, Please" became an apology?

Anywhere if you go to USA or any other country when you want to ask someone for a favor tear the person hot slap and then you ask for him/her for favor.

Yes, especially the men and sometimes the women are unpredictable, they can be overly dramatic. You are right. But the educated ones can be very smart. But you are right, they can be like that.

PotatoSalad:
"No wahala" is like "Aight" in English.

We say 'please' because we don't know the current state of mind of the next person in this country. You fit dey ask for directions from person rushing to pay ransom for his kidnapped son, or somebody that just lost his life savings to Racksterli, or a lady that was just served hot breakfast.
Make dem no transfer their aggression to you
you are a full blooded Nigerian

My night, lo gun shot. That's true Sha, but they still have good ones among them.

They came from us, most of them came from Nigeria, so they are still us even although it does not seem so.

If one wants to study what a Nigerian can evolve into, in a negative situation, I think we can learn from them and they can learn from us. It goes both ways. But one has to be careful around them.

1. A sign of respect.

2. Re-affirmation.

OP, I don't see anything wrong in these things... You're simply trying to create a storm in a tea cup. I think your brain needs an oil change. angry

None of the above sir.
1. Its a way of respecting one's self and the person you're asking the question from.

2. Its a way of preventing or avoiding insults cos you may not tell if the person get skushy for head.

Its like, why do Americans drawl, have dollars, walk tall, play country music , like apple pies, obsess with space travel and slap their thighs, crying yeehaa!

If you did away with all of Americas foibles you'll kill America and have, say, another replica England. Wouldn't the world be poorer for it?

You no know? Everybody (at least in Lagos) is a boiling pot of rage inside... just waiting to unleash on the unfortunate person.
