Kudos to those who brought this up. The problem here are the three major languages we have in this country. They prioritize their language so high in the name of English is not our mother tongue. Yoruba is even worse. Kids graduating from primary to secondary school can't speak English yet they carry canopy and throw a party for graduation party. Followed by Hausa. Those ones will teach both maths and English in Hausa. Who dey do us I nor know

Because some healthcare migrant workers from some countries has over the hears made a wholy pa mistakes with patients diagnosis and medications which resulted in mortalities.

One doctor and a nurse from Malaysia couldn't read they put a DNR on a minor illness patient he died because of the DNR placed on his bed side mistakenly. There are a whole lota other fatal cases of mistakes made by non English speakng nurses and doctors in the NHS.

* DNR Do Not Resucitate.

Alot of British born healthcare workers are also required to read and pass atleast level 2 English and Maths or they cannot qualify as a nurse, I know.

Ok..... for the English speaking countries why not allow them. in.. then set a test... if they dont meet up... which i believe naija no dey disappoint... they can send them bk..

Yes you are right. Language skills should not expire. It's extortion.

You are absolutely wrong sir. The exam is a money making venture for the UK govt & they will find it difficult to remove the exam clause.

I have people there. One of the most difficult borders to enter in the world and this Covid thing has made them paranoid. Their laws and control has become almost draconian.
I had love for that country, but following their news gave me a serious brain reset. Canada is also crazy, but better.

You are correct, but these are not a good enough excuse not to live there, America also lives on past glories, Yet both countries are still better to live in. Compared to China, Singapore, and UAE. Believe it or not. I know!

You guys are not tired of relocating to other people's land because you all have failed to build your fathers' compounds?

Do you actually mean that majority of Nairalanders speak bad English? I don't accept it if your answer is a 'yes'. By the way, you probably contribute to the bad English. Not ending your first sentence with a full stop is bad English!

Period button on keyboard is not working
If you take a look at my posts in the last two weeks, you will hardly see a period sign (I would need to bang the keyboard to get a period sign
However the next sentence is started with a capital letter

In another news, I wrote my IELTS and scored high enough to emigrate

Well sir, you are right, Britain was the last powerful and largest empire, until the spread of the industrial revolution (late IR) of the 19th century, but to say that they had firm control over China is an anomaly here, as there were no vestiges of the Britain influence here, yes they borrowed some ideas from the west, but they were not under total control of Britain yes they had very close ties at some point, Immense involvement at hong Kong, but we can say the romans and an involvement with the Chinese, and little imperialism sino-japanese.....

How is it exploitative ?? You forget the amount paid is in dollars or pounds which when converted to naira looks big in our eyes , but $120 is very fair for a test ,na your economy you sopos d blame making $120 look so big to us ...

And do you know 90% of Nigerians speak very poor English with lots of grammatical errors ?? You think its all this English we claim to speak they talking about ??

The reason for your comment might be that you might not understand what exploitative means cos I don't see what the nigerian economy or exchange got to do with exploitation. Exploitative means "making use of a situation or treating others unfairly in order to gain an advantage, benefit or profit". The screenshot below will help put things in context

A country that once was, and now is no more.

But lives on past Glories and has been replaced by China, Singapore, UAE and some parts of United States.

Nigeria ranks top 5 of the highest scorers in the test in the world; this information is available on Wikipedia, so I beg to disagree. I think the major problems are the cost of taking the test, and the validity period.

They actually think we lose our English proficiency after two years of taking the test?! It's just a crazy money making scheme in my opinion.

I agree with you on this. Those that make 8.0 band score shouldn't be taking that test again when it expires.

However, you forgot to add that the IELTS is also used to control migration to their country codedly apart from the financial gains.

Nah, Nigerians pass that test easily, we want it out because of the cost. Imagine paying 90k for the test, it's too much na.
